Scouting report on the newest signees

Cameron Sapp WR - Rated 5.7 on Rivals. As a senior in 2024, Sapp caught 44 passes for 607 yards (13.8 yards per catch) and eight touchdowns. Also runs track. Regional qualifier in both the 100 and 400 as a sophomore. Owns times for 11.15 (0.7) and 11.16 (0.2) in the 100 to go along with 49.84 in the 400. His father is Cecil Sapp, a former NFL fullback that spent time with the Broncos and Texans.

Jaylin Brown RB - He rushed for 894 yards and eight touchdowns on 132 carries as a junior, helping the Crusaders go 9-2 and reach the regional finals of the Class 1M playoffs. As a senior this past fall, Brown was Cardinal Newman’s leading rusher with 1,098 yards and 16 touchdowns on 132 carries (8.3 yards per carry). A Track guy. The three-star prospect possesses the type of speed that makes him a threat to run the distance at any time. He's logged a 4.49 in the 40 and has recently earned a trip to the Florida state championships with a 10.88 in the 100.

One thing that jumps out to me from that list are the OL. There are two who have no other P4 offers and one that has only 1. These appear to be projects and odds are that only one of the 3 will pan out. Unless HCPN can get some real talent in the portal, it will only be more of the same.

More scouting reports: I will post others when I find time. Clearly the best player in the class is Mason Alexander. Had more offers than Elijah Dotson. NOTE: The analysis were gathered from articles on each player. They are NOT mine.

Emmanuel Taylor LB – Great athlete. Last season, he made 130 tackles, 28 tackles for loss and eight sacks last season at linebacker, while also putting in work at wideout and in the wildcat as quarterback. Prolific tackler, amassed more than 120 tackles as a senior, including 32 for a loss. He is also great in track and field, running 15.58 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles as a sophomore. He also ran the 300-meter hurdles in 43.08 seconds and the 100-meter reps in 11.79 seconds. 247Sports rates Taylor as the 100th-ranked athlete and 24th-ranked recruit from Virginia.

Ja'Kyrian Turner WR - Besides Pitt, offered by 3 other P4 teams. His standout attribute is his exceptional speed, clocking a 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds. Ran the 40 as low as 4.29 (unofficial) Top 100 Florida recruit.

Synkwan Smith APB – Rated 5.7 on Rivals. Offered by Archie Collins. Has 3 other P4 offers. Last season, he racked up 24 carries for 285 yards (11.9 yards per carry) and four touchdowns and 32 receptions for 420 yards (13.1 yards per reception) and eight touchdowns. And he returned 10 kickoffs for 444 yards and a touchdown and 10 punts for 357 yards and four touchdowns. His blistering speed, combined with his vision as a returner and in space allows him to make great plays all over the field. He also does a great job breaking off tackles, extending plays consistently for extra yardage. He’s another track guy. His most recent 100m time of 10.56. That places him 3rd in the state at the moment. Smith is ultra-shifty on top of being one of the fastest players in the state

Julian Anderson ATH - Besides Pitt, offered by 4 other P4 teams. Per a USA Today article6-foot-4, 210-pound athlete also played wide receiver, finishing with 40 catches for 672 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. Not many edge rushers are athletic – and quick enough – to also play wide receiver. If he can add size and maintain his speed and agility, then Pitt will have landed a player who could be a truly elite defensive end.”

Tony Kinsler APB – Rated 5.7 on Rivals. Rated the nation's No. 15 all-purpose back by Rivals. Prolific pass catcher who produced 1,000-yard receiving seasons as both a junior and senior at Spruce Creek…compiled 1,005 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns on 66 catches (15.2 avg.) as a senior. Also participates in track and field events. District qualifier as a sophomore in the 100 and 400-meter dashes. Personal-bests include: 11.25 (1.6) in the 100 and 50.68 in the 400.

Mason Heintschel QB – Earned rave reviews at ELITE 11 camp. In his junior season, Heintschel accounted for more than 3,000 yards and 33 touchdowns, and he was even better as a senior, throwing for 2,444 yards and 35 touchdowns while rushing for six more touchdowns and nearly 800 yards to lead Clay to its first league title since 1982. Kade Bell said they found a steal and at the end had to do everything they could to hold onto him as reportedly Michigan (45 minutes from his home) was making a late push. Bell said he was the highest rated QB on their board. A baseball and basketball player as well, Bell said he throws a catchable ball with nearly 10” hands.

Shawn Lee DB
– Received two other P5 offers. Lee is an exceptional athlete and had a fantastic junior season in 2023. He completed 144-of-215 passes, 67.0%, for 2,256 yards and 26 touchdowns to 5 interceptions, while rushing 163 times for 1,451 yards and 19 touchdowns on the ground at quarterback. He also made 47 tackles (32 solo), plus 5 interceptions and one returned for a touchdown at cornerback. Rated one of Pennsylvania's top 25 overall prospects by On3 (No. 20), ESPN (No. 23) and 247Sports (No. 25) …Watch this kid’s film.

Bryce Yates WR – Known as one of the better kept secrets in Virginia. Incredibly athletic, using his speed and agility to create space and to make incredible catches. This also allows him to excel at both cornerback and free safety. As a junior in 2023, Yates was a receiving target at Matoaca, catching 79 passes for 1,193 yards and 15 touchdowns. This year, he moved behind center and served as the Warriors’ quarterback, throwing for 2,176 yards and 26 touchdowns and rushing 59 times for 388 yards - 6.6 yards per carry - and scoring seven more touchdowns. He also added two more touchdowns on interception returns.

I like the QB recruit. Watch his highlights and notice that he's been running for his life all through his high school career. He'll be ready to go behind our Oline!
Yup. I think he has a chance to be pretty good

Wonder if this is Chryst deal, where, <wink, wink>, let him get a year under his belt at Pitt before moving home to Ann Arbor?

I’ve learned not to get enthused about Pitt recruits because Narduzzi never trust them enough to play em when the time comes. He goes straight to the portal so why waste the time if your just gonna get the same positions from the portal and not give your own recruits the chance to play???

Who else misses the excitement of hearing if that one possible recruit will sign with Pitt? When's the last time that happened? I just feel like the disappointment of the season just carried over to signing day. I'm happy for these young men, but I have a hard time getting excited over players with very few competitive offers.

The zero P4 offers outside of Pitt is a little discouraging…..

it was kind of nerve wracking. Last one I remember was with Hamlin. Watching for clues; he's wear Pitt gloves one game, an ND shirt another. I really can't remember anyone big like that, especially local, coming down to the wire in a close battle with other p4 programs. I guess maybe Elliot Donald could be included.

Trevor Sommers DE – Offered by Charlie Partridge. Assets per HUDL Film (BRIEF): He is quick, mobile, balanced, very aggressive, and has great tackling skills. Accounted for 45 total tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, 13 sacks and 18 quarterback hurries in just nine games during his junior season. Collected 45 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, six sacks and 18 quarterback hurries in his senior season.

“A quality football talent who makes plays and is always around the ball. His strong football background has given him a huge advantage during this process. Watch him play and you will be bowled over by a motor that never stops and the way he overpowers offensive linemen.” – Larry Blustein He will Participate in U.S. Army Bowl in Frisco, TX on Dec. 21.

Justin Thompson OLB – Rated 5.7 on Rivals. Offers from FLA, So Carolina, N. Carolina, Duke, Cal, Baylor. Pitt is getting an every down LB with great cover skills and strength against the run. Solid fit in the Pitt system. One of the top outside linebacker prospects in Maryland. Collected 45 tackles, three tackles for loss and a forced fumble in his final season…rated one of Maryland’s top 40 overall prospects by Rivals (No. 18), ESPN (No. 27) and On3 (Nov. 36). Best LB in coverage at the UA Baltimore camp.

Ja'Kyrian Turner WR - Rated one of the nation’s top 100 athletes by On3, 247Sports and ESPN. Besides Pitt, offered by Nebraska & WVU. As a senior, averaged 108.7 yards per game, netting 978 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns on 134 carries (7.3 avg.) …had 111 receiving yards on nine catches (12.3 avg.) …also averaged 48 yards on three kickoff returns (144 total yards) His. His performance on the track has also been notable. Turner runs a blistering 4.39 in the 40-Yard Dash. He’s run the 40 as low as 4.29 (unofficial) Top 100 Florida recruit.

Shep Turk OL
– Rated Pennsylvania’s No. 14 overall prospect by 247Sports, No. 17 by On3, No. 29 by Rivals and No. 33 by ESPN. Turk’s play in the trenches has been described as mean, nasty, and violent. Understands leverage from being a wrestler. Did not participate in camp circuit or would have blown up.

I'm hoping the lone WPIAL recruit, Turk, will be the sleeper. I like that he is a wrestler and meister posted below in the summary that he didn't do the camp circuit much and that held back on some of the offers. Rivals lists him as 6'5 - 270 which I find kind of hard to believe. Reminds me back when I would see listings of John Malecki at 6'4" and if he was 5'10" that was on a good day wearing shoes. But if Turk plays like Malecki I'd consider it a win.

Akram Elnagmi OL – A product of the NFL Academy in England. A project, but worth the risk. OL is the hardest to evaluate. He’s huge, with a 7-foot wingspan. With continued progression and collegiate coaching, he could develop into a massive mismatch for defensive ends as a tackle.

Max Hunt TE - A position of need considering the Panthers haven’t landed many tight ends over the last couple of classes. Hunt showcased his offensive ability as a junior at Plant last season, hauling in 36 receptions for 424 yards (11.8 yards per reception) and six touchdowns. He’s long and lean, and it shouldn’t be hard to pack on some additional mass, but he’s coming in as a field-stretching tight end. In his last two seasons, he has caught 53 passes for 716 yards and seven touchdowns. His size and versatility make him a valuable target in the Panthers’ future passing game.

Bryce Yates WR: 1st Team All-State, 1st Team All-Metro, Chesterfield County Offensive Player of The Year - Yates caught 79 passes for 1,193 yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior, then stepped under center and threw for 1,919 yards, 23 touchdowns and just five interceptions while rushing for another 385 yards and seven scores during his senior year. He’ll get to return to his natural position as a pass-catcher.

Torian Chester OL - Pittsburgh earns the commitment of one of the top blockers in the class of ’25 in the state. Chester has long arms, is a functional athlete with excellent body control and proficiencies as both a pass and run blocker. Chester has the build of an offensive tackle at his size, with the potential to still grow at his young age. - Had a solid junior season, making the Georgia Coaches All-State First Team and the Georgia High School Football Daily First Team All-Region in 2023 & 2024. Standing at 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds, Chester is a force on the offensive line and overpowers almost all defensive ends, as he normally plays at tackle. Also competes in track and field. Posted a 39-9 shot put rep as a junior, per Athletic.net.

Denim Cook DE - Earned acclaim as one of the top defensive players and pass rushers in Ohio…selected All-Ohio Division IV by Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association…All-Central District…rated one of Ohio’s top 35 overall prospects by Rivals (No. 31) and 247Sports (No. 34) Cook represents a bigger build at linebacker in high school but will play defensive end for the Panthers. The three-star commit has the look of a big hitter who boasts a wide wingspan with long arms. If he could prove to have quick feet off the line and learn how to use those hands more off the edge than as a linebacker, he could be a unique threat as an edge rusher. 2023: Had 116 tackles (22 tackles for loss), 15 sacks and 17 hurries. Was 1st team All-Metro and All-Conference as a junior.

Jordan Fields OL - Fields is a big, athletic offensive tackle who played primarily on the right side of the line as a junior at North Shore. His large frame — equipped with a long reach — should be able to pack on additional mass while maintaining his speed and athleticism. He has solid football instincts and shows good use of hands to engage defenders with a solid punch to win at the all-important line of scrimmage. He plays with a high motor. Ranked among the nation's top 50 offensive tackle prospects by On3…Also ranked among the top 100 overall prospects in Texas by On3. Also competes in track and field. Recorded junior shot-put reps of 49-8.5 and 44-10, per Athletic.net.

Cole Woodson DB – A 4-Star prospect per On3 - He had a good junior season in 2023, making seven pass breakups, four interceptions, returning three for touchdowns, while also making 13 catches for 127 yards and four touchdowns at wide receiver. Also runs track. He ran an impressive 10.73-second time in the 100-meter dash as a track athlete for Battlefield High School. Shows good ball instincts when in deep coverage to create interceptions.
