- Three prospects visiting I have already made a 247Sports Crystal Ball forecast in favor of the Panthers in Beaver Falls (Pa.) Area Top247 defensive lineman Donovan Jeter, Suwanee (Ga.) Peachtree Ridge receiver/athlete Connor Heyward and Steubenville (Ohio) High tight end Charles Reeves.

- There’s been some buzz Pittsburgh is the program to beat for former Virginia Tech Top247 defensive end commit Tyjuan Garbutt out of Fredericksburg (Va.) Riverbend. 247Sports ranks the 6-foot-4, 222-pound Garbutt as the country’s No. 16 weak-side defensive end.
- Perhaps the top overall target on the board in Clairton (Pa.) High’s Top247 cornerback Lamont Wade returns after checking out a couple fall camp practices. Pitt is battling the likes of Penn State, Ohio State, Tennessee and West Virginia.
- Detroit (Mich.) King Top247 cornerback Ambry Thomas says he’ll be on-hand to watch former teammate Avonte Maddox, and Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech cornerback Donovan Johnson is also expected. Thomas ranks as the nation’s No. 3 cornerback per 247Sports and there isn’t a quicker defensive back in America than Johnson.
- Pitt commits expected include Top247 safety Paris Ford, tight end Grant Carrigan, center Owen Drexel, linebacker Kyle Nunn, quarterback Kenny Pickett, tight end Tyler Sear, running back Todd Sibley, receiver Darian Street and defensive endCarson Van Lynn.
- In-state notables from the 2018 class includes Aliquippa (Pa.) High Top247 safety Kwantel Raines, Erie (Pa.) Cathedral Prep Top247 offensive lineman Fredrick Scruggs, Waxhaw (NC) Marvin Ridge linebacker Caleb Deveaux, Malvern (Pa.) Prep four-star quarterback Kevin Doyle, New Castle (Pa.) High cornerback Marcus Hooker, Philadelphia (Pa.) Imhotep offensive tackle Justin Johnson, Mechanicsburg (Pa.) Cumberland Valley safety Charlie Katshir, Butler (Pa.) - A nice group of 2018s from Ohio are also expected in Top247 linebacker Dallas Gant, Top247 tight end Trenton Gillison, Top247 defensive end Tyreke Smith, defensive tackle Aeneas Hawkins and defensive lineman Alex Reigelsperger. All have already been offered by the Panthers.
