In reading the recent posts prior to her re-upping here, there was some opinions that Heather was late regarding building NIL.

I find that hard to believe, and for those that think this is true, please explain.

It seems to me that building NIL is a big ask at Pitt. What I can't believe is that Heather was asleep at the wheel.

Anyone want to chime in?

And....is Gabel really ignoring Athletics? That was also posted here last week.

Nobody is/was asleep at the wheel. Lots of entreaties have been made. The response was/is underwhelming, for completely reasonable explanations.

NIL is going to be a big problem for all schools except for maybe 10-12, total. Asking Heather to be the big national outlier is totally unfair.

Not $1 from Bickell should have gone to the Panther Club. I said that in real time. It was announced that it was ALL going to the Panther Club. Now, I would think SOME of that money was shifted to A412 so the whole $20 million didnt go to Panther Club. But Panther Club should no longer exist. Its obsolete. For the first year, maybe 2 years of A412, Alliance 412 wasnt a "pay for play" NIL. It served to get real NIL deals for Pitt athletes and as we know college athletes have close to 0 marketing value. They decided to "break the rules" and become a pay for play NIL fund like everyone else too late.

Please never list any on3 values again. NIL numbers are not disclosed. What you see listed from on3 are their estimates of what each player on those rosters (combined as a team) are worth to REAL businesses. They use the players' social media follower base almost exclusively to come up with these numbers.

Gene Smith flat out said his OSU players made $20 million last year and you'd think that skyrocketed this year. Its higher than On3 values because they, and every school are paying the players TO PLAY, not to show up at a restaurant to sign autographs, which is worth very little.

You have the figures SMF?

You have the figures SMF?

No. Nobody does. These certainly aren't it.

College football coaches are lobbying congress to come up with national laws, partly to make these NIL deals public so they know what they are competing with. These deals are secret.

Then how do they know that:

10. Missouri QB Brady Cook
NIL value: $1.1 million.

T-9. Oregon WR Evan Stewart

NIL value: $1.3 million.

T-9. Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava

NIL value: $1.3 million.

3. Texas QB Arch Manning

NIL value: $2.4 million.

2. Colorado CB Travis Hunter

NIL value: $2.7 million.

NIL value: $4.6 million.

They don't "know" that. They are making estimates. Or, if you prefer, guesses. They have no actual idea how much, for example, Doctor Pepper is paying Quinn Ewers. They are guessing.

They have a mathematical formula they use to estimate that player's value in REAL NIL deals, as in real actual deals they have with businesses. So, inotherwords, a guess. Again, they have no idea at all how much these guys are getting paid.

That would mean Colorado would be paying way too much to battle for a .500 record.

If I had $20 million to donate, I certainly wouldn't want one cent of it to go to NIL. If professional athletes want my money it will be because I buy a ticket or television package. The college football imbalance is quickly going to end up worse than MLB.

You'd rather buy a new weight room?

Before I gave to NIL, yes. It's a stupid system.
But...............it is the system. If I had $20 million to donate for athletics...............either I want it to go to the following in order:

1) NIL for FB and BB. And a gap between the next two.

2) $$$ for a specific coach either retention or acquisition.

3) And hopefully not needed, but in case of fire break glass type of thing to get rid of a Kevin Stallings disaster.

I'd pump it all in for basketball. It goes farther. But yea, no way I'd ever give that money to Panther Club anymore. Tell Joan to buy the weight room. We need players.

State laws dictated that PA schools would be "late" to NIL.

Unless it's a ticket or merchandise or perhaps filtered down from tv/media subscriptions, I won't contribute a single cent to that cluster, let alone $20 million. It would be like fans contributing to MLB players to join their team. How stupid. And Pitt is pretty much like the Pirates in that regard. Can't compete.
