In the longer term this will enhance the football profile of PA football... increasing classifications and making longer travel between some games will enhance HS FB... because it will neutralize some of the lopsided games between a lot of rival schools and force more direct play against the best teams... in many cases dictated by size of school and FB programs... obviously talent, coaching, and systems are a big factor but this will elevate the HS FB scene...
This works extremely well in CA, FL, & TX and it has forced the best teams to compete more frequently... Yes it will increase travel but the level of play will be better and get elevated in time... I'm not as certain about the other sports but for FB this is a great move forward... HS FB in PA has peaked and even trailed in recent years... a lot to the migration of population to the South... Example, the dramtic rise of HS FB talent from the state of GA... GA is now producing the fourth or fifth most D1 talent... so pupulation shifts are driving the talent pool... obvious;ly the rich get richer... i.e. FL & TX, butalso the other states and a ket driver to SEC near domination...
Back to 5A & 6A HS FB... this will force increased competition... elevate more programs to be on equal ground... and Potentially enhance PA HS FB talent in time to offset the population drift that has dramatically effected talent depletion produced in PA... we still produce great players, just less of them... IMHO this will help HS FB... and guess what... it will help PITT in recruiting as well.. with potentially more local and statewide talent to pick from... the same skeptics have existed in TX but in recent years the added divisions has proven to raise all boats in the tide...
Bonus... perhaps now they'll stop the ludicrous action of staging HS games at Heinz Field... destroying the grass in the heart of PITT & Steelers seasons!!!
Hail To Pitt!!!
