So @pittjas brought up a good point that I’ve been thinking about for the last few days obviously because of the situation Kenny is in. So the season ends at Cuse and immediately the narrative transitions into “unfinished business“. There was never one second that Kenny would be asked the question, “are you playing in the ACC Championship Game“? That question would literally have been silly. Yet within minutes after entering the post game ACC Championship Game presser the question “are you playing in Peach Bowl” gets asked. So if we can all agree that this isn’t a Kenny issue only we should be able to move quickly past should he or shouldn’t he play. Even a talkin head knows the Peach Bowl is massively different than the ACC Championship Game. If these games were the same by nature that question would not have been asked. So you have the kid at Cincinnati that obviously is going to be a solid draft pick that wasn’t asked if he was playing in a playoff game. Makes sense because Bowl games over the years have become downright irrelevant. I looked through the Bowl schedule and figured I’d be interested in no more than 6 of them, including Pitt obviously. These games are a joke. There was a time when 7-4 didn’t get you in a Bowl. Who would be interested in any Bowl that had Pitt/E. Michigan outside of each fan base? No one!
Bottom line is the Networks, NCAA and Bowl Executives have all but ruined college football. It’s blatantly haves and have nots because of these three entities. A shit program like Nebraska simply doubles Whipple‘s salary and he decides to coach after contemplating retirement. Pitt has a great offensive year and immediately LSU offers Canada like $1.5 mill per year. What would you expect....no thanks I’ll stay at Pitt for $850k-$950k. Imagine what Duzz and HL have to deal with. Take Partridge for example. What if Miami offers him say $1.4 mill. Whose fault would that be if he left. So we can establish easily money drives everything. There have been players opting out of full season. Obviously, Kenny’s decision is based on the massive amounts of money that is in front of him.
I believe @pittjas and others agreeing with his narrative are 100% correct in that an extended playoff is the evolutionary solution to the crap Bowl system these kids are stuck with. So to me the only way a top prospect like Kenny can sidestep the obviously irrelevant Bowl decision is to not make him answer it. I personally believe the injury defense of why not extending playoffs is BS. Two teams will play 15 games and two more will play 14. Pitt, and most other Bowl participants, will play 13 by the time they finish their Bowl game. If injuries are a thing make Conference play 8 games and keep schedules basically the same. Better yet play a 9 game conference schedule and lose one of the sacrificial money games. No one shows up to those games unless it’s a football factory. Those programs make that lost revenue up easily with an extended playoff model. Personally I believe an extended playoff should mirror the FCS 24 team playoff system. So maybe 18-24 teams. Top 2 teams from each conference In P5. Top 2-4 teams from lower D1. 6-8 at large. The outcome of what that looks like is up for debate. Home games at first and then Bowl sites for Round of 8. Regional groupings to keep expenses down maybe. Whatever! Point is the current irrelevant Bowl System is a joke except for a shrinking fanboy base that says, “Kenny needs to complete his mission” and risk millions in a joke Bowl game in Atlanta.
Hey Kenny.....MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!! Thank you and can’t wait to cheer for the team that drafts you!!!
