Finished his career with 17 catches for 279 yards and 5 TDs. At Pitt, he would have been a 3 year starter but these kids love to sit the bench.
I hope he was comfortable...
would he have made that many catches in his Pitt career? Maybe all these RU transfer TE's would have beaten him out, hahaFinished his career with 17 catches for 279 yards and 5 TDs. At Pitt, he would have been a 3 year starter but these kids love to sit the bench.
His 3 TDs this year match the combined 3 TD catches of all Pitt TEs the past 3 seasons. He's healthy, played a ton this season and will be in an NFL camp soon.
People said the same thing about Robert Foster after he had 35 receptions (and even less TDs than Bowers) to show for his Alabama career, and now he’s playing for the Buffalo Bills.
I think Bowers would’ve had a solid career at Pitt, but he made a decision that he thought was best for him. That should be the end of the story, no need for the “hilljack” comments from the message board MMQBs.

What’s ironic is that everyone likes to harp on the student athletes for transferring and doing what’s best for them, but then they question why they wouldn’t do so when their team has a chance to benefit (I know you meant grad transfer anywhere and not just Pitt).Well, yes, he will be in an NFL camp. They expanded camp rosters so every senior goes to a camp and they keep most through the last cut. Terrish Webb, Elijah Zeise, etc.
But this isnt a Robert Foster situation. Foster was a 5 star who played a lot (though never caught any passes) for a NC team. Bowers is a 3 star who didnt have injury problems and barely played on a team significantly worse than those Bama teams.
And BTW, why the eff didnt he grad transfer? Forget Pitt, anywhere else where he didnt have to ride the pine behind a big-time player like Friermuth. Amazing how much these kids love riding the pine. Good things scholarships arent at 100 anymore. Bama, Ohio State, Penn State and others would stockpile more 4 and 5 star players on the bench and those players love every second of it.
Its funny how different basketball and football players. In basketball, if you dont get significant minutes your frosh season, you transfer. In football, these kids are thrilled to just put a uniform and sit the bench. I never understood that phenomenon.

Yea, he can be proud of playing for a “cult” like school that values football more than the lives of children. What’s ironic is that everyone likes to harp on the student athletes for transferring and doing what’s best for them, but then they question why they wouldn’t do so when their team has a chance to benefit (I know you meant grad transfer anywhere and not just Pitt).
Sometimes it’s not all about playing time and minutes. Maybe he felt really comfortable with where he was at and who he was with? Maybe he wanted to finish what he started in 2015? Maybe he grew up a Penn State fan, or perhaps his family had a PSU legacy, and wanted to fulfill a lifelong dream of graduating from his dream school? I don’t know the kid so I don’t know the answer, but he was loyal to his school and his teammates so I applaud him for that. I’m sure he’ll have success in whatever he does in life (NFL or not). Also doesn’t hurt that he got to be part of some great teams and graduate from a great school in the process. Hopefully he has no regrets, because he shouldn’t.
Sounds like he was injured for his true freshman, redshirt freshman, and most of his redshirt sophomore seasons: https://triblive.com/sports/kittannings-nick-bowers-set-for-happy-healthy-senior-year-at-penn-state/The kid had 1 injury after another. This was the only year he was healthy. The kid is guaranteed another season due to this if he applies for it.
So at Pitt he was going to magically stay healthy? He battled injuries his entire career.Finished his career with 17 catches for 279 yards and 5 TDs. At Pitt, he would have been a 3 year starter but these kids love to sit the bench.

Can you admit that you were wrong about the kid “not having any injuries”? Good Lord. He also played behind two AA caliber tight ends. I’m no PSU fan, but I did get to know him through family members and he’s a great kid and great student. This is isn’t fantasy football. Kids go places because of many factors and decide to stay for many others.Yes. Pitt has better healthcare. They are still using witch doctors in Central PA.
Well said.Who just a rats a** about some kid named bowers and a prevent school.
I don’t!
I wouldn’t waste my dogs feces on ups or any of there players.
In the past four seasons Bowers got to go to the Rose Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl, the Outback Bowl and likely the Rose Bowl again.
If he'd have went to Pitt, his highlight would be a loss to Northwestern in the Pinstripe Bowl and losing three out of four times to Penn State.
Glass houses people.
Know who else got to go on those trips? The PSU water boy. Sounds like he only contributed slightly less than this guy.In the past four seasons Bowers got to go to the Rose Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl, the Outback Bowl and likely the Rose Bowl again.

This thread is such a bad look for us Pitt fans. So many state they couldn't care less about PSU, yet here they are throwing hate on a kid who made a choice for what he felt was best for his life and stuck with it.
By responding with this hate, all your doing is showing that PSU lives rent free in your mind.
This is correct. He missed two full seasons with injury and had a really nice year this year (considering who PSU's #1 TE is).The kid had 1 injury after another. This was the only year he was healthy. The kid is guaranteed another season due to this if he applies for it.
This is extremely surprising. Couldn't sniff the field at Penn State but makes an NFL team? What does that say about Franklin's recruiting? Pitt hasn't recruited a HS TE since the Wannstedt era and PSU is putting their ballboys in the league.
Lol. Just sitting on this for like 18 months waiting to say “I told you so.”
That's freakin hilarious.Lol. Just sitting on this for like 18 months waiting to say “I told you so.”
The exact same thing that people were saying on this thread two years ago: Bowers was a good player whose college career was limited by injury problems, and when he was healthy he ended up being behind two tight ends who are also in the NFL. There’s a reason why Franklin’s former tight end coach is with the Jaguars now - he obviously was a good recruiter and developer. This is extremely surprising.
