What a terrific humble Queen of Pittsburgh Political Elite and Benefactor of The University of Pittsburgh. When she talked to anyone it was in such in a caring manner and made you feel like a million dollars.

Moreover, never owned a Jet, did not travel in Limos. I recall being at the Prince Andrew Dinner honoring Pitt and the Marshall Scholarship Programs named after Uniontown Native General Marshall at the Convention Center. When it was over I was walking back to my car and she stopped me and said Hello with Henry. They were driving a 5 year old Buick and I just asked them for their Ticket and walked to the front so they did not have to, and paid for it, waited until they drove to the front of the garage. Handed them the Ticket and they drove off with a nice smile and thank you. I knew I was invited to that Dinner due to her.

Earlier in that decade, I wonder how in heck did I get monthly invitations from The University of Pittsburgh 40th Philosophy Of Science Seminars and Lecture for that entire year at the Frick Art Museum. Listening and learning for an hour from Guest Speakers speaking on their nations Philosophy of Science every month. A different nation from Greece, Israel, Japan, Germany, England, Russia, France, Italy and China. Each talked about their history and what they were doing in that area as well as recognizing Pitt has one of the leaders in the world. I had no idea many of those Pitt Professors studied under Einstein at Princeton and Andrew and Richard Mellon brought them to Pitt whereby this Pitt Department was ranked in the Top 3 in the world. They had a great dinner in particular the foods of the country that was the Guest Speaker after each lecture.

She also invited me to the Republican Convention in 1988 New Orleans and I was a Democrat and sat with Joe Paterno that was also a guest, but he was a Republican.

Finally, enjoyed a visit to her home where she gathered some people to watch the results of the 1994 Congressional Elections when the Newt Gingrich took over the Congress. She has a painted portrait of her younger self hanging right in the foyer and she looked liked Elizabeth Taylor from the movie "Giant" dressed in jeans and a scarf around her neck as if she just came back from Horse Riding! The last time

I saw her was at Chatham University's Women Seminar where Cokie Robert's Spoke on her new book and women letters in Politics. I got a nice Thank You Note and she always wrote them out in her own hand.

She will be missed and what she did for UPMC Cancer Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and America is beyond evaluation!

God Bless Elsie That Taught To Love Another Person Was To Touch The Face Of G-d, just like in Les Misérables ' Epilogue ' Finale!

I was with a brave woman yesterday that was overcoming Ovarian Cancer and she is so optimistic with courage and an outlook that only brings a smile to anyone's face. I am just proud to know her.

Hillman Contributes $10 Million to University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute
These funds will enhance our ability to recruit the very best physician scientists to join the distinguished group of cancer specialists at UPCI for the treatment of cancer patients as we expand our role in the field of world class clinical research," remarked Jeffrey Romoff, president of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. "I am pleased to announce that in grateful recognition of this generous gift, the planned cancer research and clinical care facility at UPMC Shadyside will be named the Hillman Cancer Center," continued Mr. Romoff.

Mr. George H. Taber, chair, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Board of Directors, said, "Henry Hillman and his wife, Elsie Hilliard Hillman, have a long history of support generally for health care and medical research in the Pittsburgh community; this particular gift benefits two organizations that traditionally have been important to them—UPCI and UPMC Shadyside Hospital."

Great OP!!! Captain.

Yes - Elsie was indeed a special woman. Gracious with people and generous with her time and money. I was fortunate enough to grow up with her and Henry as nearby neighbors. She was fun, always had a warm and inviting smile and a cheerful disposition and a genuine interest in how you were doing. She may have had more money than just about anyone, but she was unassuming and kind and thoughtful. As classy as they come.

I still remember the beautiful sympathy note she wrote to our family when my father passed away. Just a wonderful person- I feel blessed to have known her and am grateful for all of the good she has done for the Pittsburgh community.

Both Elsie and her husband had been in the Hillman Cancer Center for treatrment.

The good folks that work there....knowing they were in the presence of unthinkable wealth....went out of their way to give them privacy, comfort, attention.....

But the Hillmans....on every visit...refused any special treatment. They sat in the waiting room with everyone else...waited for their appointment like everyone else.

Agree!

Those Thank You Notes, Sympathy Cards and all Writings were Always with her own hand even up to last weeks. She was in Canada 15 days ago and was still writing them out!

Pittsburgh has lost our Queen and she will be missed but still leaves a legacy of grace and generosity and there will be a public and private ceremony in celebration of her life.

Thank you for recognizing her on how she loved her life and made many so much better just to talk to her, let alone know her, like you and your family did!

Class is never bought or gained by just wealth and power, it is what the Hillman's displayed by their actions and way everyone that actually knew or spoke to her, will miss her, but smile when thinking about her and Henry and the Hillman Team!
