Any idea when Pitt will announce the game time for Rice? Hoping for a late afternoon slot, given the game and the fact that the Buccos are on the road.

Fox Sports South does a noon game every week and for that week, its Pitt/Rice. Good news is that someone wants to televise it. Bad news is that its at noon.

Process of elimination, really. The ESPN networks will pick Clem/VT, FSU/Wake, and UNC/GT.

Raycom is up next and took Syr/NCSU.

FSS had to choose between Pitt/Rice, BC/Cent Mich, and Lou/Murray St. It took Pitt/Rice, leaving BC and Lou to stream-only but the benefit to that is they can kick whenever they want.

This is a situation where I would have reached out to the ACC, FSS, BC, and Lou and asked if they wouldn't mind taking out TV slot so we can kick off at 6 on ESPN3. Noon for this game will be brutal and ita going to look terrible on TV.

Why?

What kind of draw do you think it is?

What kind of draw do you think it is?

Do I need to go in to all the reasons why Noon games suck? I am sure there are many loyal fans(those with or without season tickets) with young children that cannot attend due to activities for their children during the day on Saturdays. I know of at least a dozen people in which this is the case. This is just one example of why Noon sucks.

It sounds like it is a moot discussion because Root wanted Pitt's game. I had assumed this one wouldn't be on TV.

The problem with Saturday morning/early afternoon youth sports is that there are not enough Pitt fans to replace the Pitt fans who would rather see their kids play than attend the Pitt game. So, if 5K fewer people show up at noon, maybe 500-1000 are able to sell their tickets on Stubhub or give them away but there simply isnt enough interest for those seats to be filled with someone else.

The ACCN will lessen the noon games some.

Yee ha.. you losers can watch Bojangles and mellow mushroom commercials. I will be at the game. Souf how much do you donate. trust but verify.

When I saw the title of the thread I was waiting for it to be joke answers....

I was all set to say 6am because no-one would know the difference.

With a noon kick-off its another wheels up take-off once we taxi out of the driveway at 3:15 am as we wave to our favorite PA State Troopers on the PA Turnpike.

Thankfully its 70 mph speed limit so 80 mph is cruising speed offset by night time road construction and that worthless Squirrel Hill Tunnel traffic.

We have our PITT flag on the car and last year one trooper cut us a break since he was a PITT fan since we were a bit over 80mph. He asked us what time the game started and wanted to see PITT tickets.
We passed both tests!

Fixed.

As bad as the ACC TV contract seems, every G5 home game has been televised with the exception of Akron (thank God). UNM, ODU, Marshall, Rice. I'm not sure Pitt ever had a G5 home game televised in the Big East outside of the Wednesday night vs Navy.

I don't care what time the game is broadcast, as long as we don't have to listen to Takeo Spikes do the color commentary ever again.

Last year's Marshall game was brutal.

To athletics?
Now only $500.
Gutted my athletics donation in 2010 ..when I gave up

Just enough for my north club seats .
We have 4 together now, though by buddy make sure the donation for the other pair- by his choice .
We moved back in September of last year- so we're finally using our tickets for the first time in 5 years.

Wife and I give a couple grand to the school of pharmacy annually, instead .
Seems a better use of our money, as we know that's helping .

The Squirrel Hill Rain Cloud blows in and I'm hoping for a wind shift ( to Ohio) to correct the situation!

Pitt has a lot of soul searching as a whole next few years , and no I'm not talking about Duzz or his job.

Actually the Louisville - Murray State game is also a RSN telecast starting at 3:30. Only the BC - Central Michigan game is streaming only.

Dang, Louisville vs FCS got the better slot over Pitt vs FBS? That's pretty low....but when you give up 49 in the first half....

If the game was at any time you people would have something to say...12 I gotta go to my kids game, 3:30 the baby sitter can't be here yet, 3:30 my tailgate would have to start at 10:30 and it's between breakfast and lunch, 6 and it takes up too much of the day, 8 I'll get home at 1:00 so don't like that. Complain, complain, complain, I have never met more ppl who look for stuff to complain about. I'll be there at 6:30am to tailgate just show up cheer on the panthers be done with it. Jeesh. Rant over

Bad move.

Make it a 6:00 start followed by fireworks. Drop the root sports coverage and force any local fan wanting to see Pitt to actually attend the game. The fact that you add fireworks is an even bigger incentive for those fans and who knows, you might get some families to take kids down as it might be the last time to see fireworks this year with the Pirates home schedule being over.

As far as the fans complain about any start time, I see people bitch about thursday night games and saturday noon starts. What kickoff time that is saturday 3:30 and after are posters bitching about? Do we have any threads to prove it?

This is a constant irritant for me - I don't understand why Pitt ALWAYS seems to have 12 PM kickoffs, outside of a few games every so often. I used the example of NCSU the other day and they seem to have late afternoon or early evening kickoffs for the most part.

Call me crazy but I think attendance would be better for later kickoffs and at the very least, it gives fans an extra incentive because tailgating is a ton easier later in the day than at 10 AM.

JMO.

Its disproportionate because like 2 September games every year have to start at noon because of Nutting so out of the other 5, we'll usually have 2 noon, 1 Thursday, and maybe 2 others. Plus, Raycom and FSS do noon/12:30 games in their syndicated time slots. Then factor in Pitt is never good enough to get 3:30 or primetime, most Pitt home games will start at noon.

This will change slightly with the ACCN.

It's almost like it's a contract which we have to honor for those tens of millions in tv money we get, right?

You think that Pitt football has a TV contract with AT&T Sports for 1 game? Or do you think American Sports Network has a $10 million contract out there to show conference usa? Quick google searches show you that conf usa doesn't get $10's of millions of dollars drom ASN...in fact it tells you that ASN is going under and barely pays for sporting rights.

So could Pitt reuqest a blackout for their local audience and offer fireworks at night to get a decent crowd for the Rice game? I still say yes.

Game time is only up to the TV guys when there isn't a Pirate game that night. When there is a Pirate game, Pitt tells the networks when they can play.

That's the story right? Selective input on game times.

It's Narduzzi who wants the noon games. I have no doubt that he requests them. He's said as much in the past. He's basically tone deaf to anything outside of his little bubble.

How many home games has he played that weren't 12pm, 12:30pm, or 1pm kicks?

What was the point of Steve's survey several years back where he asked about game starting times? If Pitt can't control that, the question isn't much relevant.

Steve pushed a 3:30 pm kickoff. I swear I remember reading a quote from him saying this. He wanted a 3:30 pm kickoff time at home when possible. I'll look for quote but I remember him saying this in an interview.

Its an ACC-controlled game because Pitt is at home which is why its being televised by Fox Sports South and picked up locally by ATTSN. CUSA's deal with ASN is irrelevant
