Rich Rodriguez to WVU

Looks like I’m in the minority because I think it’s a good hire for WVU. His offensive system still works and they should be able to get a QB for relatively low NIL.
I think it's a great move for them. Mentioned the idea to a wvu grad a couple weeks ago who liked it.

Yea, I think its a really good hire. Lets not forget he dominated the Big East and WVU is, essentially, STILL in the Big East. No reason whatsoever he cant win that league quick.

He’s a jagoff but, he is their jagoff. He was on McAfee’s show today, or yesterday, I don’t watch it.

He said something to the effect that he forgot a word when he was talking about four-letter words, soft, weak, and he added Pitt. Scott McKillop said since we are playing words games he used, quit, fail, run, or something to that effect, to describe DickRod.

Story on the Trib’s website.

Schiano is a maybe but they still suck

Schiano's problem is that the Big Ten plays nine conference games, so he can't schedule four (or even five) games against teams like Seton Hill and the Western Pennsylvania School for the Blind like he did back when he was having "success".

Time to run it back, someone get Wannstedt on the phone.
Wanny as the CEO head coach with a primary function of glad handing for NIL money, Duzz as the Defensive Coordinator, and Walt as the OC. Such a back to the future scenario with those guys from 20 years ago may actually work. The linguistic eloquence coming out of the coaches meetings would be something to behold for sure.

Back when Wanny was the coach I always thought Walt would have been the perfect OC for his regime. I think we tend to forget how good Walt was on that side of the ball.

Pitt was a central theme of the Pat McAfee show/pep rally today. But that's ok. Good to see Pitt get so much attention on such a popular show. Its all just good rivalry fun. Weirdly, in the middle of it, they interviewed Christian Pulisic. Like, how did that get in there?

Second acts rarely work. Majors, Brown, sucked: Schiano is a maybe but they still suck
He just seems like their football Huggy Bear to me. Seems like he belongs there.

Same as us to some extent- who else were they gonna hire? They got a guy who has proven he can field a good team.

I would not actually want Wanny as HC again. He was the HC during half of my time at Pitt and he is a great guy. But I would take him as GM or some other administrative position, not as the HC.

Oh I agree. My reply was a spacetime continuum kind of thing. I do think a sixty year old Wanny would have been great for getting NIL money to Pitt in today's game though.....kind of the opposite of Duzz.

This past season was soo strange. I was soo involved to not caring at all.
I am pulling for SMU to kick the hell out of Penn State and win it all... because if that happens maybe enough of the big boys will be scared shitless and may consider limiting endless free agency based on one year NIL deals.

I started reading the SMU boards and I now consider them equals.
They crushed Pitt.
What is Pitt even doing these days? Injuries I get but losing a 5 in a row is a death March.

not at all, didn't you hear? Pitt's season was successful! Pat said it, what you don't believe?

we all should be excited for next year as Pat has also cracked the code on NIL and TP, he said that too

barely containing my enthusiasm and no matter if we screw up the bowl game, you know it's tough to win every week in the ACC, oh and must be tough to win even in crap bowl games too, so again have no fear as the Duzz will lead Pitt forward so LETS GOOOO!!!!!!

H2Pat!!!!!

Matt Cavanaugh and Frank Cignetti Jr were the main issues, but Wanny hired them.

Cavenaugh was a disaster. Cignetti 1.0 was acceptable, but certainly nothing earth shattering.

Thinking about this is depressing. Who has been our best offensive coordinator in the last 20 years? Canada I guess had one really good year.

I am also not a fan of this for Pitt. He has done well at JSU recently and his offense can def work in the B12. I was hoping they would keep that bozo Brown for another year or 2 while we still played (and would have beat tf out of) them

If this works, they can definitely get back to being a consistent fourth or fifth place team in the B12.
Dont be naive. B12 is very balanced and they put more money into there program then most of the others. Freaking ASU got a bye this year, WVU certainly can win that awful conference.

By balanced i mean they all are pretty freaking bad. We beat them and played our D+ game this pass year

That is what i am saying bros, that leage sucks and WVU spends more then almost everyone there so they will probs compete. Quikcly to

And Cignetti had a lot of firepower on that team too. Dion Lewis and Ray Graham, Baldwin & Shanahan, Nate Byham, Dorin Dickerson. An experienced offensive line with Malecki & Pinkston. Only scored 16 points in loss to WVU. No reason that team shouldn't have run the table; instead people are happy with a 3rd place finish in a crap conference and being the champs of the tire bowl.

If that team had a good QB, it would have been lights out (i.e. if Bostick played up to his ranking). Stull was serviceable, but not great by any stretch. And Cignetti tended to run the wheels off Dion, similar to what he did with Izzy.

EDIT: I think Steelcurtain posted and I agree....that 2009 had a good starting 22 but no depth whatsoever, especially on defense. So maybe running the table wasn't a reality.

he ran the wheels off Izzy? will need to look that up but not by my recall at all

Interesting that many WVU players are hitting the portal and many are starters. Are they a bad fit for the RR system? Told to "move on"? Don't like RR? I get a new coach brings on a different approach but this to me is interesting that some are leaving. (Whereas at UNC 4-3 who went into the portal have decided to remain at UNC after their hire)
