RiP Mike Curtis

What I remember is him picking off Craig Morton late in Super Bowl V, which led to Jim O'Brien's winning fg. I wanted Johnny Unitas to get a Super Bowl, and I became a Cowboys hater that day.

For those old enough to remember him, Curtis was a terrific LB for the Colts.

Most famous however, for laying out a drunk fan who made the fatal mistake of running on the field in the middle of a game.

Sleep well #32. You were a true badass.

I'm sure someone can post the video,

Enjoy....
Curtis was one tough SOB.

Yes he was. The Colts version of Jack Lambert.

Jack Lambert was one of the nicest gentleman I ever met

As a kid, we would do these Bike-a-Thon fund raisers for Cystic Fibrosis research. One year the incentive for raising some target amount was you got your picture taken next to Jack Lambert. This wasn't really Steeler country as I grew up much closer to Baltimore and Washington DC. They had cement blocks stacked up for the kids to stand on for the picture. I remember being sort of scared of him. Actually, really scared. I was a Colts fan, and my Dad thought it was a good idea to wear my Colts jersey (Bert Jones) for the Bike-a-Thon. I was afraid that Jack Lambert was going to grab me by the ankles and start swinging me around bashing my head in. He didn't do that so I thought he was really nice for the 8.5 seconds I was on the blocks for the picture.

One of the best NFL Films episodes ever was one where they profiled the "Toughest Players in NFL History". They included Greg Lloyd, Bednarik, but the best part of the episode is Mad Dog Curtis. They show Curtis laying out that fan and Bubba Smith talks about how his teammates chided him for making them all look bad doing that. Curtis responded, "That man broke a city ordanance, I was just enforcing the law."
