Who would have thought that after Week 2, some of Pitt's toughest games figure to be Syracuse, Louisville, and Boston College?

Louisville has just played 2 cupcakes so far, so maybe their not as good as they look, but they will be tested with games coming up GA Tech, Notre Dame, Miami, Clemson among others. The Louisville we see later in the year will be much different...maybe more battle tested....maybe beat up.

Syracuse on the other hand...wow, they might just win 10 games this year. Their OOC schedule is an embarrassing Ohio, Holy Cross, UNLV, UCONN. In conference, they have a bit of tough stretch with 4 road games in 5 weeks at NC State/Pitt/BC/Cal. Cuse is capable of winning any of those games but also capable of losing any...so 2-2 in that stretch sets them up to be 9-2 heading into a home season final with Miami, playing for that 10th win.

BC made some effort in the OOC, playing Michigan State and Missouri. Those teams are down, but they sure aren't Holy Cross and UCONN. However, BC got a really soft conference schedule....they don't play Miami, Clemson, NC State, GA Tech. For them it's going to come down to how they fare in their Big East games against Pitt, Louisville, CUSE.

If any of Pitt, CUSE, VILLE, BC claims the mini-Big East championship by sweeping the others, they may well be in position for a #2 seed and spot in the ACC-CG. To which, I'll end up with Miami is a lock for the ACC-CG. Not because I am suddenly a believer in Miami, but their conference schedule is SOFT, especially with Florida St looking a mess.

I don’t know if any of those teams are “tough” per se outside of Louisville.

The ACC is just down this year. Probably really down.

Which has made a lot of games tougher than they usually would be.

besides Miami and MAYBE clemson, every team in the ACC is capable to beat any other team in the acc, and of course, lose to any other team as well.
Agreed and that's why if one of Miami or Clemson hits funk for a couple games, it opens the door for a Pitt, CUSE, BC, etc to somehow sneak into the ACC-CG

It can be the unknowns and unpredictables that grab a team in football. Like injuries.

But right now this conference looks pretty competitive. Could be an interesting ACC season. We’ll see.

It’s less likely those teams hit a funk for a couple of games, compared to the other lower tier teams just exchanging wins and losses with each other.

Who had UNLV-CUSE being a Top 25 matchup in October on their college football bingo card?

Even if UNLV is solid this year, that is Cuse's best OOC game and the other 3 are pathetic. So playing one solid G5 team in a 4 game OOC schedule is still weak sauce scheduling.

UNLV blew out Houston, who nearly won in Norman. UNLV could be the G5 representative in the CFP. Brennan Marion is going to be a very rich man.
Marion’s offense had very little to do with the Houston game, UNLV is breaking in a new transfer QB and the offense struggled in the opener. It was the defense that totally manhandled the Houston offense, which was something I don’t think anyone expected.

They are 7 point dogs at Kansas on Friday, if they can be competitive there then we may have something.

Houston is terrible. They have ONE win in their last EIGHT games. That was a one point OT win over Baylor, who has also been complete ass lately.

Cuse learned their lesson about OOC stupidity. Pitt should do the same.

I think it’s the opposite. Other than Wake Forest (and Florida State, though I don’t think they’re bad, they just aren’t what they were last year), I think almost every ACC team is the same or better than last year’s version. And I think we’ve added a legitimately good team in Cal, plus another in Stanford that I think people will realize is better than they thought in the preseason.

Being the same as last year’s version isn’t really good for any team except FSU and maybe Lville.

The number 4 team in the ACC team talent calculator per 247 is allowing a basketball score at home to a Sun Belt team.

That’s as atypical as it gets.

I thought you were talking about defenses only. Having Drake Maye, instead of a freshman backup, obviously makes a difference.

No, I’m talking about how bad UNC is, when ideally they would be a conference front runner.

As I said earlier in this thread:

It’s not that the northern teams have become good. We all just saw what happened to one of the northern darlings at home last night against a bad team.

It’s just that the bottom has fallen out of the southern teams. And those are the teams with the recruiting advantage, so the ones with the higher ceiling.

And last I saw, Houston was getting blown out @ UC

I’m not even sure it’s a Year 0 for Willie down there.

They have so little talent, next year is looking like the Year 0.

You almost have to be doing it on purpose to have recruited that poorly in Houston.
