Is looking like it could happen per Paul Zeise. I think it would be a great way to kick off RMU’s new arena with a packed house & a lot of local coverage. Also, I’ve been wanting Pitt & RMU renew playing each other for a while. Hopefully it will happen.

That would be awesome. Would be cool to see Pitt play in a nice, new, small venue like that.

Pitt should try to get a 3 for 1, 4 for 1, 5 for 1, something like that. It even makes financial sense.

Let's say instead of a 3 for 1, Pitt decides to play 4 home cupcakes over the 4 years. The cost of those cupcakes are about $100K each....so $400K. The cost of a 3 for 1 deal to Pitt would be just the bus rental to Moon.

Ya hopefully it’s a 3-1 deal for RMU’s sake as I would love to have them host Pitt once every 4 years if we can keep it going. (Good deal for both sides-Pitt financially$).

Per Pghsportsnow-Pitt and RMU game is happening!

Will Andy Toole still be the coach at RMU for this game against Pitt? St. Joe's is interested in him.

yeah, especially that UPMC helped build it.

He's a proven recruiter and coach. His biggest liability is he recruited over RMU's status in the basketball world.

I say this as a currently disappointed RMU fan.

Probably letting my feelings get in the way here. But he has had problems keeping players at RMU. 4 straight years I think the best player on the team has tranfered.

& I wonder why people didn’t want him earlier (like after NIT upsets of St. John’s/Kentucky & then NCAA win in 2015.

Its amazing he had Marcquise Reed, Rodney Pryor, and Elijah Minnie on one team. He's got to get out of RMU while he can though. And they better hire Mike Rice 1 minute later.

Not sure why he has to get out now...big game against Pitt he can sell to recruits now & new arena.

Also, I would be in favor of bribing back Rice with his current job dealings with some high level AAU players. He also had the best RMU teams all time.

Any single game availability without buying season tickets?

Hasn’t been announced yet. RMU is smartly using this to get the new arena more packed for the entire season (get back old season ticket owners & get new ones).

I would imagine some single game tickets will come available maybe in late April/May.

I'm probably just going to buy season tickets. They have to be super cheap and I'll support my grad school alma mater. In a way I am proud of them for committing to basketball. I'll go to some games next year besides the Pitt games.

I'd guess tickets wont be sold to the public. Just season ticket holders, students, donors, staff. If any leftover, they would probably be offered to season ticket holders so be nice to me.

He doesn't have to get out. He's still pretty young. He's paid better or comparably to some A-10 coaches. He'll have a veteran team and the buzz of a new arena next year. A bunch of conference deals expire soon, so there could be realignment that opens the door for RMU to join another conference.

If a great offer comes along - and I'd put St. Joe's up there right now - then sure, he's got to look at taking it. But there's no need for him to have one foot out the door.

How many games at the Pete is Pitt getting for this in the contract?
None. One-time deal.

RMU vs Pitt doesn't generate the same buzz as Pitt/Duquesne. RMU can get more lucrative buy games elsewhere.

Pitt's doing this because Capel still has a young team and this will help generate little buzz for both schools. I'm sure there are some advertising and partnership arrangements involved, too.

For one seat, it will probably be under $130 (idk about donation) for the whole season. Depends where you get the seat tho.

Is Pitt getting part of the revenue for this game?

No doubt he can recruit and coach. But recruiting over RMU’s status is not his biggest problem. His biggest problem is he is just like Mike Rice was at Rutgers in the way he abuses players. But ppl don’t pay attention because of where he coaches. It’s well known in the BB world going back to when he worked at the Hoop Group. But I still thought he would have moved up already.

He was all set to take the Fordham job a few years back, and then got cold feet. RMU hasn't done much since then, so his name has cooled off.

How does he abuse players? I’ve heard he’s a very tough coach to play for if that’s what you mean.

As I said see what Mike Rice did at Rutgers...that type of abuse. Not just verbal because everyone has a different definition and I don’t have a problem with a coach being tough on kids to help them grow as players & ppl. But there are lines you don’t cross such as getting physical with kids and threatening them 2 inches from their face.

It’s one thing if ur the top players he has brought in who have options to transfer but most of these kids are in the NEC for a reason. He has had way more then his top players transfer if u look into it.

My friend worked with him at the Hoop Group and had to break up a fight between him and a HS kid. He says the HS kid was not at fault. There is a reason him and Mike Rice are close...they believe in coaching the same way. The only difference is he has not been caught on video like Rice. Hopefully he has learned from the Rice situation and changed because he can coach & recruit.

Speaking of Rice my friend says off the court he is a great guy for what that’s worth. Seems he has done a lot to rehab his image...I wonder if someone will give him a shot again...

Toole hasn't been at the Hospital Group for 15 years. I'm guessing he's changed a bit since then.

And most of his transfers have been guys who either transferred up (Marcquise Reed, Rodney Pryor), had discipline issues (Elijah Minnie), or just couldn't cut it at the D1 level.

In fact, outside of the guys who transferred up and for Minnie, who was always talented, almost all of the RMU transfers didn't go to another D1 school and those who did aren't exactly lighting it up.

Tooles been a head coach for almost a decade. If there were really issues, they'd be out there, even at RMU, because of his connection to Rice.
