Ron cook still defending paterno

The goalposts continue to move. At first it was he didn't know about it at all. Then it was that he did know but did everything he could. Then it became that he could have done more but was still a good man. I just wonder how many of these revelations have to come out before the narrative on Paterno turns and people start realizing what a true DB he was. Cook will probably defend him to his last breath.

To be fair, Cook is also saying that he could be 100% naive and wrong. So I'll at least give him that. His support seems to be wavering.

For someone like Cook to change his stance completely on JVP now means that Cook would have to admit he was wrong, and more or less a fool, for all of that time. Cook, a public media figure, is not about to do that. So he'll just continue to equivocate and rationalize.

If this Scandal did not get out then I feel Joe would still be alive.

I think he faked his own death so that he didn't have to go to prison. He is as alive and well as Jim Morrison and they are both hanging out on a beach eating peanut butter and banana sandwiches with Elvis.

Says he doesn't believe paterno is a monster but he should have done more. Poni asked if he doesn't believe these allegations and Ron said that he knew paterno well and he can't bring himself to believe it.

Cook should lose his job
Everyone is entitled to his opinion. Cook isn't about to change his opinion after fellating Paterno all these years

He coached in 2011, and died in January of 2012. There is no question his death was expedited by the Rape Scandal.

He got off easy. I truly wish he would have lived long enough for them all to see what a despicable phoney he was.

No. Pitt fans need to go full on clown mode on his show. And just prank call after prank call. Drive him out of the market. Make him miserable.

I thought I read Paterno died of cancer. So by acting like a scumbag and turning an eye away from child rape you can get cancer?

Cook spouts that garbage because he thinks he's a smarter version of Mark Madden and is just poking at the masses. I'm betting the fact he has to do radio is annoying and beneath him but they make him do it. I stopped reading him ages ago. I think the Press was still being printed when I decided it was enough.

I have a very good friend who is a Penn State/Paterno fanatic/apologist of the highest order. When Paterno died, he sent me a text that said simply, "RIP Joe."

I'm not sure what he was expecting me to write but I replied, "You do realize that he's not coming back in three days, don't you?"

He did not talk to me for SIX MONTHS because of my insensitivity. How cray-cray is that?

His wife (also a PSU alum/fanatic) called a few days later and politely asked me to apologize for my "snide" remark because "it really hurt (my friend)."

I told her to go to hell. It was a joke and he was acting like a little bitch. Paterno was just the coach of his alma mater's football team: nothing more, nothing less.

She was aghast and hung up on me!

LOL!

Lunatics!

My buddy eventually got over it and we're cool. However, his wife now hates my mother-lovin' guts all because I refused to bow at the altar of Paterno.

She'll get over it too...or she won't. Her choice.

If this scandal never came out, then I am sure Joe and his doctors would have found a way to continue battling the cancer. The s#it had hit the fan, and it was only going to get worse for Joe.

It's pride by proxy. These weirdos have somehow so intertwined their identities and self worth with Paterno's PR manufactured image of piety and scholarism that they can't psychologically handle finding out he was a self-serving morally bankrupt bum of galactic scope.

Some are obssessed with perpetuating the myth at any cost, like the Lubrano guy who lost his family over it. Like the nut who compared the sanctions to 9/11 on the news and literally said on camera he "basically saw planes flying into buildings" when Emmett was revealing the penalties. Like the Board of Trustee nominee who said several times with a straight face that men of Paterno's caliber come along once every 400 years.

This for some guy they barely knew.

Fkn people baffle me but not everyone has an elevator that reaches the top.

those who supported Joe are now downshifting rather than admitting they were wrong. Cook just went from 4th to 3rd instead of jamming it into park

I agree he is hedging his bet but what is the difference from 4th to 3rd? He still questions the victims statement as if he knows this man! Cook is starting to look creepy himself!

That was a great line. Joebots prove unequivocally that cult brainwashing requires a complete deprogramming regimen in a medical facility.

That is sick. Its amazing how people worship that dude. But its totally believable.

If you went up to a PSU fan and said, "Paterno sucks," some would literally fight you.

They stood on the alter of self righteous BS for so long, they can't come down. They've looked down on every other program as cheaters while ignoring how Joe tilted the table whenever and wherever he could. They want to believe that 409 wins were all great battles against the "tough" teams Joe told them they were while still screaming "We ARE!!" during 82-0 drubbings of Cincinnati (was at that game). They really believed in success with honor and the whole boys will be boys narrative when someone got in trouble. Yet they love to point at Pitt and claim the police hid incidents with Ironhead to protect the program. From what? (Incidentally, I know a former campus cop that brags about hooking up Ironhead on his very last night on the job).

After being pious for so long, it's a long, difficult walk back. Don't expect it. They're waiting for someone to at least meet them most of the way up to where they're sitting.

Well, you do have to separate your head from your heart. Not wanting to believe it doesn't mean you shouldn't believe it at this point.
