Here comes the overhaul, kick out an assistant or 2 while we are at it. . Pitt is probably an NIT team next year with our pitiful guards, but at least the overhaul has started. Still have a shot at Diallo, but should put the entire focus on Heron, Manigault, and 2016. Let's get 4 quality players in 2016 (For the love of God 2 more decent Guards) and hold these with Heron and Manigault, and the 2/3 sinking Pitt Titanic ship will start rising slowly again.

At least the 2011 Pitt recruiting class is dead, buried, and out of its misery. Worst class ever. Congrats Johnson on sealing the exclamation point to this loser class.

Dixon is starting to feel the heat now. Better stop doing commentary on other teams in the NCAA Tournament and start recruiting or you are going to sink too cause no one is going to pay you Top 10 money for NIT and CBI appearances. Only Pitt is dumb enough to do that.

Top 10 money? Where do you get that figure. Dixon is paid well but the $2 million he's locked into is about to become pretty much the norm for programs like ours. Coaching salaries are about to go through the roof with all this extra TV money rolling in (but they still can't afford to use it to pay players). $2 million gets you a good, but not great coach, nowadays. If you want a great coach, you probably have to pay $3-4 million. $5-6 million gets you an elite one.

May have to clean house from top to bottom. This mass exodus of players is all on Dixon, and maybe he should leave too, don't be surprised that the new recruits decommitt too because they are taking this all in too. And I'm am all for a new head coach. Who knows, JD might be leaving on his own anyway. Are these players leaving on their own or are they being forced to leave

SMF, I understand the ACC's take on the tourney to be 33 mill and equally distributed to your point on additional moneys.

Most of you FAIR WEATHER FANS should read kenny kanagaroo's post (and live it). Don't you ever get tired of writing this slop ?

Let's put at this way, some of them feel his schtick is wearing thin and are questioning his ability to get it done, and it's accurate to say, some at least where not happy with the long extension.

believable, I can see where they would be upset with the money he is getting. Problem is Pitt has never been a major power in college basketball, and in my opinion Pitt's competition on an annual basis was upgraded when they moved to the ACC. So basically I don't see this situation improving, but I do believe it can get much worse if Dixon is forced out.

We just need to embrace being an average team.

Really, so when we where dominting a Big East that at the time was stronger or at least as strong as the ACC and earning #1 seeds, that was a fluke? I see no need to embrace mediocrity. I know personally people in the Pitt athletic comittee who are willing to go all in, do whatever Florida State, Kentucky, UNC, Clemson do to win. I mean ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING, the thinking being, if we are going to compete in the Power 5 then go all in or not at all. Hopefully the new Reichs Chancellor agrees.

I disagree, because I am right! What's the use of being in the "Big Leagues" and collecting a welfare check and being a doormat like Vandy, or Northewestern? If you're going to compete, then compete, DO WHATEVER IT TAKES to tangle with the BADDEST of the BAD ASSES, or why bother? It's not like athletes are regular students, that's BS, no matter how you cut it they represent our school's pro sports teams, so admit that and play it from there, just like Kentucky or 'Bama do.

Yes it could get worse if he is forced out or it can get better too. But it seems that the really good pitt fans are happy with a CBI championship and a 1 and done in the NIT. What has happened in the Big East is old news. It's more like "what have you done for me lately" nothing, that's what, and doesn't seem that it's going to get any better anytime soon.

79, I agree to most with being in the big leagues, as the saying goes, if you wanna run with the big dogs..get off of the porch.

To some of your previous posts, why not PITT and if other schools do it why not ? Load and reload like Kentucky and Duke.

Just judging by the transfer list of college basketball these days, rosters turn over VERY quickly. Pitt has been a program that has had much less turnover than most...and, even this year, the roster turnover isn't even anything alarming in regards to college basketball.

Syracuse has seen several transfers...Louisville losing several...maybe this will change some with the rule of 4-year scholarships coming into effect as opposed to the current 1-year renewable at the school's discretion scholarships. This is the landscape of the game now....rosters are in constant flux. Players are transferring at high rates, guys are turning professional (not all leaving for the draft, since there are only 2 rounds) and overall changes.

Teams can change their look in quite a hurry. That was why so many teams went from having worse (and some much worse) seasons in 2013-2014 than Pitt had in 2014-2015 to middle of the pack seeds in the NCAA Tournament. Teams can change in a hurry and the few that hold on to more and more of their players have a distinct advantage...which is something Pitt used for many years. Now, we are getting hit with the bug that everyone else seems to be having and it makes things very inconsistent. Without a local talent base and tradition rich program...the reloading quickly is never going to be easy...so, maybe a little change in recruiting strategy is needed....this spring and into the fall will be very interesting and will set the tone on where Pitt moves next and going forward.

It is what is happenign at many top programs around the country. See several leaving NC State as well now too...some very surprising...

Cap pitt, you're all for a new coach, but WHO? We saw the disaster that follows when you just get rid of the current coach without an upgrade in place and ready to go with the whole Wanny fiasco. So my question: if you want a new coach, tell me WHO specifically you think Pitt would be able to get that you would want to replace JD? Unless you have a very good answer, I think it's foolish to discuss at all.

I see you're still making up stuff and fabricating stuff to try in vain to make yourself feel big. LOL! I can't believe the stupidity.

There are some young head coaches out there like Gregg Marshall at Wichita st might like to coach a power 5 team, Archie Miller , and who knows Sean Miller and some others but you never know until you try. Are we happy with the downward trend we have taken over the last 4 years yes we were a contender in the big east but not anymore. JD is a really good coach but I really believe it's time for a change. A new coach Can't be worse then what's going on now with this program

You are a fool if u think Marshall or Sean Miller would come here. Marshall just signed a 3.3 million per year contract, and Sean is around 3 million. Arizona is one of top 1-2 basketball programs on the west coast. The only possible option from the list is Archie, and that is not a sure thing.

A new coach can't be worse than what is going on now? It's hard to take you seriously when you say things like that. Jamie is highly successful and highly respected. If the Wanny fiasco taught us anything, it taught us that, yes, a new coach CAN be worse.

Things could also get better. But I don't think they can get any worse. Yes Jamie is a good coach. But you guys who know it all like living in the past, I and many others feel that after 12 years something has to happen to end this downward slide and a new coach can be better too so what else you guys are saying is Pitt won't pay the price for a top line coach so they will keep JD. You just never know until you try what's the difference if we suck with this coach or suck with a new one

It's not like coaches that can take us to the next level are growing on trees out there. You can count on 1 hand how many coaches are in the category of being the type who would be impact coaches at Pitt and would give us at least a 50-50 chance of improvement. And none of them would lilely move from their current situation.

Who knows some up and coming coach just might want to jump to a power 5 school, that is if the price is right, if we have a good assistant or even a good head coach and some other power school wants him, they get him, they lure him away with a higher salary, why not turn the tides and go after someone too or like I said before we will keep JD so we don't have to pay the higher salary to lure another coach to this power 5 school, really?
