Not sure why people are so upset about Bub’s decision. Anyone who has a good understanding about the NBA and this situation had to know that Bub leaving was a pretty good possibility. This is a weak draft and he already had assurances that he would go in the first round.
I get it, we all wanted him back, but you have to be realistic. This was almost always going to end this way.
The great thing about this is that he made the decision now. He could have waited for another few months and then we would have been handcuffed with NIL acquisitions. The word is that we have about $2M to offer and that Jaland and Ish got part of that. However, Bub was earmarked for up to $750K.
Now we have that money and a bit more to get a few guys of need. Maybe a backup PG/2G, a shooter, and a real big at either the 4 or 5. Huntley Hatfield, Thierro, Dubar, Brown-Jones or maybe Maleek Thomas could be in the mix now.
We have some nice pieces to work with in Jaland, Ish, Cummings, Zack, Papa, Jorge and G and just need to add a few pieces that we have money for.
Let’s let it play out, I think we could end up with a very nice product.
