-The only reason to even have this meeting is to discuss Sean Miller, or, someone like Pitino. Anything else besides that would be completely pathetic. You have a search firm and now you need a meeting to discuss candidates? What the hell is this, the NCAA Tournament selection process for the Pitt coaching job? Mark Schmidt now advanced to the Pitt final 4 for the job? The organization of this University if someone isnt hired in 48 hours is rock bottom at D1.
Well if its about Sean Miller, their is a lot to discuss.

Let's take it at face value for now. As we all know Rothstein likes to take shots at this program. It could be entirely possible that they have their guy and just need an approval from above and Rothstein quoted or parsed the words from his source and as usual, the mentally challenged automatically assume the worst

The only place we know for sure there is chaos is on these meaningless message boards.
To state the worst case scenario: we called Oats and Hopson and they passed. Now we are scrambling and need to get all hands on deck so we can resolve this. That's probably not the case, but that's my biggest fear.
Definitely not the case, Oats wouldn't turn down big money, the guy barely makes around 600 k a year, no way he turns down something for example like 2.8 million to stay at freaking Buffalo in the MAC.

This meeting could have already been on the schedule and certainly the basketball head coach position would be a topic. You know people, it’s possible this means nothing too.
Most people couldn't find Buffalo on a map, where do you start? , what state Wyoming?.
Buffalo probably still has 5 ft of snow so a move to Pittsburgh is like taking a job in Ft Lauderdale for most other people.
He's a good coach, good recruiter, affordable, he'll probably stay for a while if PITT wants him, good communicator, aggressive personality, etc.
Pay the Man!
Give him an office, a place to hang is coat, show him where the men's room is, point him to the basketball facility, tell him to win, I think he figures out the rest!

Maybe to discuss miller, definitely no thoughts about pitino. If miller didn't play at Pitt they would've never considered him, well he wouldn't have been interested either.
There's 2 big things I look at with miller that haven't really been discussed (at least that I've heard or read here). One positive, one negative.
The positive: how bad is it really if he comes here and later goes to jail? You're afraid of another search? The job will likely be much more attractive by then. It almost couldn't get any worse than potentially having no players. Nobody will care about a possible negative image. Hurley just went to uconn for gods sake, for less money, in a lesser conference. Louisville will have no trouble finding a coach. Win, somebody will take the job, that's the bottom line.
The negative: we still might have no players under Miller. Say all our guys leave, well whatever miller can recruit he'll bring his Arizona class right? Sure, the class that all de-committed. And realistically, there's not much time to put together much of a class this year. Fill a roster sure, but that might be about it. If there's something less than having no players, we might end up with that.
At this point I'd like the hire of miller. But I can't say I'd pull the trigger that quickly. There's a lot of potential downfall.

Maybe this is nothing. However, it has the feeling like this is turning into a disaster and Lyke had no plan outside of Hurley.

First and foremost, I didn't say what he says, or the shots he takes aren't backed in truths, but have you not read anything from the guy?
Listen...worst case scenario Pitt poaches local Coach Andy Toole in April or May
& brings in Mike Rice too as an assistant. That team would defintely be well coached at least.
It's a whole lot easier hiring soccer coaches thats for sure!

Ok, so if he is telling the truth and reporting facts, that isn't taking shots IMO.
Was it necessary for him to post today "Jamie Dixon went to 11 NCAA Tournaments in 13 seasons at Pitt and averaged 25.2 wins per year. The Panthers had a great coach and didn't appreciate him. Facts are facts."
