Man this kid sucks. I don't know that much about basketball as I'm more of a football guy, but I can tell when somebody is not a good player.

I'm watching the NC State Louisville game and the kid literally just stands at the three point line and waits for a pass. Very little movement without the ball. Can't rebound. Poor passer. Zero physicality to his game. the worst part of his game is he is slow as molasses and the Louisville guards are running around him like he is a stationary tackling dummy. Gets his points from just shooting and shooting and shooting.

Why was everybody on this board whining about this kid? NC State can have him!

Pretty much sums up my thoughts exactly. He is very slow and very unathletic. I don't think we missed out on anything. I'd take Slim every time over Mav.

17 on 5-13 shooting. He can shoot but simply can't create his own shot and is really slow. They were even commenting on it during the broadcast. No way he is a guard.

The thought is he would be a 40% 3 point shooter. At 6'7, a knock down shootet like that is invaluable to any team. A JJ Redick type. Its still early. His shooting needs to improve.

Seeing Cameron slash to the hoop last night on one single play got me thinking about what he might be if he is able to earn enough minutes and progress.

He has a few years to develop - and he could become a great one.

Understatement of the year. I think many people think Redick just stands around the 3 point line launching jumpers.

Redick shot 41% from 3 point range and 47% from 2 point range for his career. Rowan is shooting 32% and 36% so far. That's not good.

Redick turned himself into a solid all around player and has had a really nice NBA career.

Have only seen Rowan a few times, but to me he looks like another Jon Severe, a guy more concerned about getting his shots in. Maybe not coincidentally Severe's shots and minutes have been reduced this year, and Fordham is off to a pretty nice start.

Watched part of this game and the comments already given are mine as well. He is unable to create his own shot and can’t play D. If standing behind the 3 pt line and shooting uncontested shots was all you had to do, he would be okay.

Slim is incredibly quick at 6-8 ?? The kid has a good handle, good passer, and a very quick release. Unlimited upside, maybe more potential than any other guy on our team. For all the moaning about lack of talent, we may be watching a Pitt team with several future NBA players.

Everyone on the Pitt board knows that Rowan ended up at NC State so he could shoot his way into an NBA career he may end up developing into an NBA player but right now he looks overwhelmed from my observation.

I guess Gottfried has given him the green light to shoot because he ain't shy.

I watched their game last night. NC State has some talented players, but no depth. Their players routinely take poorly timed or just bad shots, make foolish turnovers and display very little basketball sense. Their defense last night was pretty mediocre, Anya gets a lot of rebounds, but fouls too much, which hurts when you have no depth. It's all run and gun, with little semblance of an actual plan or strategy. They will win some games, but I think they have some problems too. Lindy's basketball magazine had them projected to be above us in the standings, I just can't see that happening. One major injury would sink this team IMO.

Agree completely. Slim has TONS of potential. The redshirt was needed and if he follows the typical Pitt developmental profie he coud be VERY good as a JR/SR. Johnson is showing facets to his game that few thought he had. In limited playing time recently, he's had several very nice moments, a dish here or there, tieing up Coleman for an important rebound, the floating drive you mention and sme deflections for steals. He's proving that he can be more than a spot-up shooter.

Ron Rowan and Maverick's coaches did him no favors by letting him just be a shooter. Lack of structure at Lincoln Park may be something to consider when evaluating Nelly Cummings too. Rowan may still prove to be a good player. But, I think he would have gotten better coaching here than from Gottfreid. Of course, given his Dad, they'd probably have pulled him and transferred elsewhere if he wasn't getting the green light to shot whenever he wants.

Yeah pretty spot on. The last shot by Cat Barber was a perfect example of the selfish/stupid play. Again, back to my post a week ago on NC State. They are just like a pickup team.

As for Rowan, really the first time I had a chance to see him. I love Pitt fans pissing all over him, yet defending every Pitt project. Though, when I was watching Rowan it was also in my mind that he is what, 20 years old? Something like that? He is a good shooter. But he is as about as slow and white as any player in the ACC. Almost looks like his name should be like Pauliz Pyrzstowski or some foreign player from Europe.

Who knows how he will develop, but I do know this, and I will now admit this, he is NOT what this program needs, because we have guys with Rowan's scoring/shooting ability, but he would make our guys look like Bobby Jones/Jason Kidd as defenders by comparison.

If Dixon allowed Slim to shoot 7 to 9 three pointers every night I'll bet he (or any of our guards) would be able to make 3 or 4 of them. So Rowan's scoring average is not impressive at all and just a result of volume shooting. They kept taking him out of the game late because he was completely useless defensively. While he can improve on some facets of his game, you can't teach him quickness or toughness and this will result in him not being able to create his own shot. Ever see how Stephen Curry has to run and weave full speed through elbows, shoulders, picks, etc in order to get a decent look at a three? Rowan could never do that. Good perimeter defense will turn him into a 1-10 three point shooter each night.

This kid was supposed to be a one and done caliber player. I think he will have a tough time making a roster in Europe.

NCSU is a really bad matchup for us. Too quick. Nobody can guard Barber. Anya is a load and they have guys like Henderson and Rowan who can get hot and score in bunches. There's a reason they've beaten us 3 in a row. Really, how many coaches besises Brey have had 3 game winning streaks vs Jamie? NCSU has a lot of talent.

I would guess it has a lot to do with the shady recruiting process surrounding Rowan and also his public negative comments about Pitt. But that's just a guess.[/QUOTEe

And add to the fact that many thought he would be on the fast track to the NBA, but has very little basketball sense. A highly rated player that is showing he isn't that highly rated yet.

Terry Henderson (formerly WVU) has been out since the first game of the season with an ankle injury and may not be back until February. Rowan is only playing as much as he is because of Henderson's injury.

I don't disagree that State has a good deal of talent. Most of it is on the front line. But they've lost 3 of their 4 top scorers from last season. The reason they've beaten us the last 3 times is much more due to TJ Warren and Trevor Lacey than anything else. There's never been much chemistry nor semblence of much of an offensive flow on Gottfried's teams - they're largely a collection of 1-on-1 players. He's a lousy game coach, but somehow a great recruiter. And just for fun, you might want to do a Google search on Gottfried's rumored dalliances - both at Bama and State.

James Franklin's line on looking at his coaches' wives to gauge their recruiting ability comes to mind. Gottfreid IS a good recruiter, right? I guess that carries over.

Banging your players girlfriends is a special kind of wow.

I mean, I don't care that much about the affair as she was likely a gold-digging ho and he's an older guy with $$$. That's been the way of the world since it started turning.

But if you're at all interested in maintaining the millions of dollars per year career you have, man, go fishing in a different pond.

Why bother. Everyone knows this little hater is anti Pitt and loves and over rates everything not Pitt, yet a bunch of folks keep placating him mainly because his thousands of idiotic posts make the site look to be very busy. You want Pitt haters dominating the board, keep sucking up to them Why don;t you ask the Pitt hater why he hasn't written scores of posts demanding that pedo u (his first or 2nd love) bring back Bradley like all these hideous posts demanding Pitt do it? You know what He doesn't want pedo u damaged, only Pitt. Keep on answering his pathetic posts. Remember when he openly bragged about not supporting Pitt financially and now he lies and makes like he is a season ticket holder. Ask him which were lies. You know the answer. People like him hurt PITT. When the rest of them get it, him and his ilk will go somewhere else to get their hapless need for attention filled. Calling him out is useless because the board owners love the counts and hits.

I am enjoying his team's dismal year after his anti-Pitt comments, but I'm sure Dixon could've turned Rowan into a pretty darn good player. I'm sure Dixon was more than forward in his plan for what that would entail, which is why Rown is now starting for a team projected to finish 16-15.

I think he would have as well. But the Rowan's wanted to play right away and I don't see where maverick would have gotten much minutes on this team.

Jamie told the Rowan's what he tell everyone anymore which is, if you earn minutes, you'll get them.

It's possible that Maverick could be playing Cam's minutes, but that's about it. I don't think Jamie would have played him at the two (and Mav is playing the three at NC State for that matter).

I agree with all of that
