Coaches have praised Flowers but have insinuated that Matthews has stood out among the freshman WRs as the guy most likely to play this year. Steel Curtain "not pleased."Anyone heard anything about him? I know he was a decent recruit a couple years ago
My guess is that he will redshirt.
Looks like they like Ford, Weah, Henderson, Tipton, and Lopes as top 5.
Probably use Chally and even Mathews some as well.
I think we'll still throw more than enough to be considered an attractive offensive scheme for receivers. I mean, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, Nebraska, etc. have all landed big talent at WR. I'm actually amazed we couldn't snag a top-flight guy in this recruiting class. There are plenty of guys who could probably walk in here and be the new sheriff in town from day one.its a long season, i think the probabilities say flowers plays. a lot of bodies at the position, not enough playmakers.
going forward in a run heavy offense it will be interesting to see if we can lure any top flight wr's.
Agreed. I would be shocked if Lopes is legitimately ahead of either Flowers or Matthews.I think the top 5 stuff is coaching "psychology" (and/or BS) to some degree - whether it be to light a fire under certain guys or to create more of an appearance where the freshmen really have to earn their spots (i.e. Whitehead last year: Even though he didn't start against YSU, was there really ever any doubt that he was our best option?). But, by all accounts, it seems as though Mathews is going to be ahead of some of these guys. If for no other reason than he offers a different skill-set than most of them.
It seems like Flowers is progressing a little slower than a lot of us would have liked him to, but I think that's okay if Mathews continues to surprise and offers a nice weapon to our arsenal.
Who do you think you're fooling with this lame a$$ schtick?I think we'll still throw more than enough to be considered an attractive offensive scheme for receivers. No. It's hopeless. Sleep tight E'eor.its a long season, i think the probabilities say flowers plays. a lot of bodies at the position, not enough playmakers.

I think Flowers will blossom, he certainly looks ready physically. Ford is gone after this year, so these guys will have to bring it.
He's been in camp a week or so, Im willing to see what he can do.
- The cold truth is we really don't know what we have outside of Ford. All these freshman and others are completely untested. It is all guess work to try and project who might or might not emerge as play makers.
- As we have seen before, lightly recruited players can and do sometimes become good players. Highly recruited players can also be flops. To count out guys like Weah and Tipton is just wrong. We simply don't know what they can do in game situations. Maybe they haven't shown the coaches what they need to see yet, but they will get their chance to shine.
- As for predictions, other than Ford, I think we get our biggest contributions from Henderson and Tipton and Aaron Matthews will be used alot when we get in the red zone because of his big body and ability to box out and create space.
- Regardless of who emerges, if we have the success running the ball that I expect, I am quite confident that this receiver group will perform admirably.
We need Matthews and Flowers to get on the field sooner rather than later. Not impressed by the current crop of WR, but hopefully we can replace Boyd production somewhat. Last year. someone Not-Named-Boyd would make a cameo, well Tyler is gone but the Not name Boyds are still on the roster. Next man up
Was talking about Dontez last years number 2, not Paris. But I am glad you like my analysis.Great analysis other than Ford won't be on campus this year....

This^
Flowers and Matthews better be the starting WR's next year. They both will need PT under their belt for next year.
Flowers has all the tools to be great, he just needs the reps. Be patient, he'll get there. Matthews has suprised me, I like him after I saw him dominate top DB's at camps with his route running and hands...but thought it would take him a while to adjust since he really was a raw WR.
You gotta go back a good way to the "big talent" at WR at GT, Wisky, or Nebraska, I mean like Calvin Johnson, Al Toon, andI think we'll still throw more than enough to be considered an attractive offensive scheme for receivers. Tipton amd Weah are in very different situations. Weah has been in the program for 3 full seasons and hasn't caught a ball in a game. The clock has been running on Weah for 3 years and he hasn't shown anything to this point. Tipton is jjust getting started.

I have absolutely no way proving it, but I am sensing and tending to think Pitt Wideouts will be far better than expected. I am confident on Canada getting it done and sense it will could make a 10 wins season for this Team. You gotta go back a good way to the "big talent" at WR at GT, Wisky, or Nebraska, I mean like Calvin Johnson, Al Toon, and

The coaches have been saying that they like Matthews as a downfield threat, as opposed to a red zone possession target. He's apparently a lot faster than his Rivals 40 time.
I think Henderson could give us a different dimension than we've had in a while.. Fast elusive guy that can do real damage when he gets the ball in space. There is always a place in any offensive scheme for a guy that can create mismatches and make people miss. I picture us trying to use Henderson the way MSU used Macgarrett Kings, who was an important weapon for them despite playing in a run-oriented pro style offense.
It is certainly possible that foul play involving our QB could be a strategy applied by some of our opponents. I know it is early in Narduzzi's tenure but, we missed on Jurkovic, perhaps the number one QB in the land for 2018 and he was a hometown boy. We have had the hardest time getting a quality QB out of high school. Only success such as playing for an ACC title, will bring the interest we need to change this. In fact, I have already stated how important this year is for us in returning to prominence. If we get it done this year on the field, recruits will take notice and want to be part of it, meaning 2017 could close strong and the 2018 class could be a top 25 class or even better. Let's Go Pitt!I have absolutely no way proving it, but I am sensing and tending to think Pitt Wideouts will be far better than expected. On the other hand, I am very worried that Nate Peterman will be Targeted as getting Cheap Shots all game long, he is the Keystone in this years Panthers going 7-5 or 9-3 or 11-1? Take him out and Pitt will end up 7-6 or at best 8-5!
The OKSU, UNC, Miami Coaches won't hesitate to or care if one of their Players take a cheap shot at Nate, Just a Hunch!
