Thanks so much for posting the video. I was there and it was a joy revisiting the game. A great time indeed to be a Pitt basketball fan!
Can't help but notice how both teams shared the ball and played defense and rebounded. Maybe the current Pitt team could learn a few things from that Pitt team.
Retirement of his number is long overdue. I'm glad he is alive to see it.
Sam Bam's jersey should've been retired along time ago. Howland sped up BK's jersey retirement and was very instrumental doing so. I'm not taking anything away from BK's achievements but that could've waited until Sam's was retired. H2P!!!!
Maybe Clancy should hold a clinic to teach the current team what its means to be physical.

I’d probably consider this game to be the official beginning of my hyper, hyper Pitt Hoops fandom.
BK’s number was retired long after Howland was gone - I believe it was in 2009 when he was an assistant under Dixon. I don’t believe Howland had anything to do with it to my knowledge.
BH reached out several times to donors, athletic dept after he coached here. Just a little info... H2P!!
I started watching Pitt basketball around 1985 and haven't stopped BUT applied the brakes during the Stallings era. Damn Barnes gave us the self inflicted death penalty. Unbelievable SMH. H2P!!!!
I heard it was really Dixon who pushed it and was the main reason - that from the SID at the time - but I’m sure Howland helped. BK was held in very high regard in all Pitt circles at the time.
Remember that game well....... Was there for our Eastern Eight Championship & on to the NCAA Tourney to play UNC.
