at the Pitt-wisky game.

Herb Sendek, late of ASU,NCSt, Xavier and Penn Hills. Guess he is set to take the job when Jamie gets fired or takes another job.

Thought I read he is one of the leading candidates for the Rutgers job.

They just hired the Stony Brook coach. Herb would make a good asst. HC.

Wow, apparently he is going to have to set his sights a little lower if he wants to get back in the game.

Herb is definitely the second best basketball coach to ever have attended my high school.

The best BB coach from your HS is pretty darn good and has proved it many times and at the highest levels.

Also good insight by a couple of you regarding Herb being a decent option for Pitt to consider

Herb is a washed up nobody. Never won big.

Legitimate question for you. If Jamie Dixon is fired/quits and his new team plays Pitt who will you be rooting for?

And to play devils advocate Jamie Dixon (who I still support) has made one (1) Elite 8 appearance in his tenure here. As Pitt fans we hear a lot about the Scottie Reynolds play, but that Pitt team needed a very clutch shot by Levance Fields to even make it that far. Nationally Pitt is known as a team that is often overrated and chokes in the tournament, and Jamie Dixon certainly bears a lot of responsibility for that.

I'm a Pitt fan, don't care who the coach is. Based on some of your statements you're a Jamie Dixon fan first, a Pitt fan second.

Bravo! Excellent Post!

Not to be confused here, I thought Herb Sendek was being mentioned by panthervision and piranha as a possible top assistant coach, which seems appropriate to me. For him to climb to a few head coaching positions he probably was a pretty darn good assistant. Having gained additional knowledge and experience through head coaching at different schools, different conferences, for different AD and recruiting different areas of the country he should be an even better assistant.

What people forget about that team is it had to play a very average player [Jermaine Dixon] at the 2 guard. Dixon made two fatal mistakes in that game. Up 3 with the ball late in the game he carelessly dribbles into a trap just across the time line, loses the ball then fouls. 2 free throws cuts it to one when Pitt could have gone up 5 or 6. Then on the infamous Scotty F***ing Reynolds play, all he had to do was stay between Reynolds and the hoop when Reynolds received the pass but he allowed Reynolds to go around him unimpeded. That team was one good shooting guard away from a national championship.

Herb's dad was a Windber grad, which was why I mentioned him being in the house. Actually my first thought was maybe he would end up as an assistant at Pitt.

I'm not sure how many people are or could forget what you are referencing. At least in my mind, the careless dribble into the trap and the the foul after losing the ball are what coughed up what should have been a W. Very ill-timed and what amounted to bad BB smarts or downright unfortunate choke job.

The amazing part is if you watch it again, Dixon didn't have to advance over the time line. There was no pressure for him to do that. he easily could have passed back to Levance in the middle of the floor.
