With a bye week it is a good time to assess the lame actions of renewing football and basketball series with WVU.
As stated the fans in Sec. 213 during the Pitt / GT game had to endure ignorant WVUcc fans for 3 quarters of negative taunts, along with public drunkenness before the ushers finally kicked them out of the stadium. Imagine the thousands of ignorant fans that will display this poor behavior in the stands during the Pitt - WV game in Morgantown.
Additionally while I attended the road game at Va. I was approached by a Univ of Va employee (formerly WVU employee) asking when Pitt would man up to play WV (he didn't know about the 2017 basketball and 2022 football agreements). I told him about the upcoming series and what a mistake on Pitt's part due to ignorance of the WVU fan base. He revealed that the long time football series between WV and Va. Tech was ended by Tech because of poor WVU fan behavior.
There is no room for the Mounties on Pitt's schedule, this poor behavior goes way back, I quit attending the games in Morgantown during the mid 1990s due to 2 consecutive road games where my car on one trip and the next trip my friend's cars were vandalized smashing windshields.
Physical threats abound going to the stadium and returning to your car. We remember the LSU fans at Morgantown, wife pregnant, husband beaten into a coma. Then there was Jamie and his coaching staff injured by thrown coins.
Sad state of affairs when I lived less than an hour from Morgantown and couldn't attend a Pitt game there. WVU has big time fan behavior problems mainly directed towards Pitt but as identified goes well beyond Pitt. If WVU wants the Pitt game every year then make them play in Pittsburgh every year as the visiting team.
