I am not a fan of this free agency of college players, but it could be big for Pitt for a few years.

it is no secret Pitt has not recruited as well as we should. it is not just that we don't get the 4 and 5 stars, but many of the players we expect to be solid 3 and 4 star players have not progressed as well.

Pitt would not have recruited Sterling Smith or Maia out of high school. Jamie would have been ripped on this board if he had. but many lower ranked players and lower profile basketball schools turn out much better than expected.

Jamie essentially acquired some of those players this year. I am not against seeing more of it in the future, though I would prefer our recruiting of high school seniors improve.

My best friend is a Cornell grad, and it really sucks for these lower teams. Cornell stinks, largely because guys keep jumping (Cancer of Kent State jumped from Cornell). You recruit, train, house and feed a guy for three years, only to have him bolt in the year you need him most with no hope of adding someone that late who will even come close to replacing him. That being said, it is good for the kids in the sense it lets them join a team that has a reasonable chance of doing something in March and them getting more exposure.
