Sensible QB take

Was listening to some of the Peak podcasts and he was talking about Slovis being successful with quick release pass plays. Also mentioned instead of a full pass progression just look for first choice, second choice, check down. Makes sense, but I can see him holding ball if all 3 aren’t perfectly available. Patti’s legs make that type of idea more palatable so if that check down isn’t there the QB just runs. Can’t mess around anymore waiting for Slovis to “get it” while the pass offense stays stagnant.

Slovis didn't seem 'hesitant' his freshman year at USC. Maybe it was the offense, maybe quality of receivers, or maybe his own confidence. But he has a live arm. Patti has better legs but is not near the passer overall. If Cig can get Slovis and his receivers on the same page downfield, he is our best option. Let's hope today is better for the offense. This is a must win.

Maybe the pass offense won’t be such a prob if Izzy/Hammond turn into a Ollison/Hall duo circa 2018.

Having Slovis go thru his Progressions is something we will never have to worry about.

The next time he hits his 2nd or 3rd option that isn’t a check down will be his first.

Syracuse hired the OC we should have, and WVU got the USC QB we should have. Just how it goes when you’re in the hunt for other’s scraps like we (and those other schools) are. Occasionally you hit, like we’ve done with the Florida transfers in recent years and guys like Peterman. The (apparently) singular great season Matt Canada had or will ever have. But more often you don’t (looking like Slovis will be part of that long list; Cig, probably a flop butneed to give him another year with different players at least).
