Seriously, Travon Chapman beats us, right?

As much as I'd like to think we can bus up the turnpike and take care of business as we should, I remember our last 2 games in Ohio against MAC schools. In typical Pitt fashion, I totally expect Chapman to have the game of his career against us in front of an unusually raucous MAC home crowd ala Bruce Gradkowski which I unfortunately saw in person. I'll see this one in person too but hopefully the drive home will be a little happier.

This will be the test of whether or not this team this season is the "Same old Pitt" or not. This is a game in the past 10 years that they lose.

Honestly, I'll be happy with a win. Win and move on.

I am so used to is losing games like this, its actually hard for me to envision is winning. I can picture Chapman rushing for 175 yarda and throwing 2 TDs.

Pitt rid itself of a kid who admitted that he beat-up his girlfriend. 'Nuf said.

Even at the risk of losing a talented football player, I, for one, am glad that he's no longer on Pitt's campus.

Yes, but just saying that "same ole Pitt" would make Chapman look like RG3 and lose. Lets hope not.

It certainly would fit the Pitt "script". Certainly, losing this game DEFINITELY does, and doing so because of this guy would be the dung icing on the crap cake.

One thing possibly going for us is that Chryst is gone. It would be a more fitting scenario if the guy he had recruited would beat him. So perhaps it wouldn't be as amusing to the football gods to set up.

Another thing in our favor is, although we tried our damndest last week, we didn't have a repeat of a disgraced Nebraska coach beating us in his first game coaching a bad low level school from Ohio. Duz managed to avoid repeating that, even with so many things going wrong. So possibly he'll turn out to be our "lucky" coach.

If you go back and watch the Akron game from last year, or even the highlights, most of their big plays developed because the PITT DEs were not able to maintain the edge. Additionally, the PITT secondary took all sorts of terrible angles against what amounted to lobbed passes down field from Pohl. Hopefully the difference in defensive schemes will lead to some turnovers this year on the 50/50 balls.

The play of the DL and the ability to contain the middle of the field, which Chapman likes to target on his QB option plays, is going to be paramount. If you take a look at the Oklahoma game, Chapman doesn't appear to have the speed to break to the outside, opting for runs straight up the middle. Needless to say, the play of the MLB is going to be something to watch in this game.

Akron is not going to be an easy out. They held Oklahoma to 3 points through the majority of the first half, even though Akron's offense wasn't doing much. PITT is going to earn every point they score in this game, and need to try and capitalize in the second half when they should wear down the Zips a bit.

Of all the interesting ways pitt has lost, I don't think they have lost to a QB that was on their roster at one point.

So this would certainly be a new way to lose in spectacular fashion.

And the sole reason why I wouldn't be surprised if it happens..

He's not even Akron's #1 QB, is he?

Wow. Why such hate on Chapman ?Some said he stinks but coming in he was a better QB than any we have on roster except Voytik . Now because he made a mistake and is not at Pitt he stinks ?
Hitting a woman is wrong no matter what but c'mon that has nothing to do with his football skills. He was a woman beater before and after he signed at Pitt. But he also was a 4 star recruit and (almost) everyone was excited that he signed with Pitt.
Voytik was Jus tas bad as Chapman last week and Peterman not much better. I don't hear anyone saying they stink. That is just small minds thinking out loud. He is good and may be great in the future (for Akron). Lets wish him well, kick his and Akrons a$$ no matter how he plays and move on to 2-0 and next weeks game. Saying he sucks really is small minded and immature.

What about the white (not blue) smurf running back who ran all-day against Pitt last year? That has a much more likelihood of happening than some erratic running QB having a career day.

He started against Oklahoma but he rotates series with the senior, Pohl. Chapman was Akron's leading rusher. 14 for 48, not great but not bad against OU. Our D has always struggled against mobile QBs.

To add to the plot. Jerome Lane's son is a WR for Akron. So, its very easy to envision a late Chapman to Lane TD throw beating us.

Its ashame some of us are conditioned to plan for things like this. I called the Akron ticket office and they said they are expecting a sellout. I've seen this movie before (Toledo). I guess the good news is if they come out of AKR with an impressive victory, it may be a sign that times are changing. Walt, Wanny, and Chryst all lost to MAC teams.

Voytik and Peterman also stink

so there - someone just said it

I too shared the Toledo Experience. Nothing I say won't sound like anything other than the sour grapes, but it's beyond sour grapes. I've been on several other Pitt road trips where the game was a disappointing loss, but I'll tell it like it is. The places I've been, even when we've lost, I try to find the good. I have nothing but good to say about Virginia Tech for example, nice campus, nice fans (and best port-a-johns I've EVER seen anywhere ... George Costanza would even use them). And that's even though we lost 2 of the 3 times I've been there. Notre Dame (both losses when I've gone there), I found really didn't live up to hype, but it was certainly idyllic and most folks were pretty nice, overall very positive despite the losses. Memphis for the Liberty Bowl: awful game, frigid weather (colder than friggin' Pittsburgh), but what a great time on Beale St. Even in games I've been to in STATE COLLEGE (again, all losses), I've seen nice places and met some nice people.

But I have NOTHING good to say about Toledo. The 'campus' was disgusting and the stadium worse. The fans weren't quite WVU level but sort of a modifed-Yooper version of the same, if anyone knows that reference. I had to chuckle with the blight that impacted the water in the lake near there made news about a year ago ... between the dull-wittedness of the populace and the low living standards I witnessed, I'm surprised they would have noticed it.

I curse Paul Rhoads to this day for what has to be the most crapulent defensive coaching E-V-E-R, playing his 2 NFL cornerbacks 25 yards off the LOS all night and giving up 60 of the same identical slant pass completions to a hack like that Polish kid, who is in the NFL today SOLELY because of that game. Just as Randy Edsal should give part of his salary to Wanny for his garbage coaching against UConn, Bruce G. should give Paul Rhoads a hearty percentage of his NFL checks.

Rhoads was beyond awful against the "intricate" dink and dunk offense. Remember USF beat us with the dink and dunk in their 2nd ever 1A game.

Gradkowski only threw a few passes vertically all game. It was maddening.

Not a chance. Chapman stinks.

Like I said the first time Chapman threw a ball at Pitt, he stinks. 4-14 for 29 yards, coming of a game where he went 0-8. Not even Paul Rhodes could make the kid look like a good QB.

Hate to knock a kid online so I wont go this far but I will respectfully say, No hard feelings for losing this kid and his departure is best for both parties involved..
