Not only were several key players not dressed, or not on campus yet (freshman) but anytime you SPLIT the starters, you are bound to get sketchy play.

Unlike what was done EAST of us-- at Penn State, with the 1st team gouging the 2nd team defense, 37-0----, we had starters on both Blue and Gold from the OL, and consequently -----even play.

Heck, I looked at one point in the second quarter, and one of the units was comprised 1/2 of walk-ons--- It was what a Spring Game SHOULD BE...

Quit overreacting. In the fall, you will see a team ready to play as one unit...

I saw it as Coaching Staff evaluation of all Players and seeing, learning, and judging what Players have abilities to develop and as a way to see them train, build up, and develop their talents into being better Players by August.

Narduzzi has already said publicly in the Media, Players have to know their own skills and up to them to develop them with coaching staff guidance. Yet, some very talented Recruits are on the way in August and all will be in the mix to seek out jobs on all Teams.

I thought it is was great use of time, evaluations, display of raw talent, but that is prep for summer camp. Once each player earns and coaches choose the First and Second Teams and potential substitutes, it will be Game Prep two weeks before the first the game and that will be an ongoing process as well.

Many Pro-Clubs do the exact same thing. Spring Ball is for each Player to know how much more he has to do to get a chance to show his strengths before Summer Camps.

It is not so much about Reps, Plays and Execution, it about developing and finding Players coaches want to evaluate and judge later. After his first year, Dorsett was kept out of Spring Ball, they already knew what he could do, it was about findings others that could do it with him at other positions, and back him up.

I see it as just example of Narduzzi proving he is very good coach.

I'll be honest, I actually kind of get what Penn State was doing. They're installing an entirely new offense right now. The first team needed reps together, even if it was a massacre.

Look at how disjointed Pitt's two offensive units were for a while, hell maybe the whole game, and you start to understand why Pitt may not have maximized the work for the guys they expect to be the starters as it took them half the game to figure out what was going on.

PSU has a very important game on September 10 of next year. More than anything they need that offense to get every chance they can together. Not the expected starting QB with some hack third string guard and half his wide receivers taking passes from the third string QB.

Wrong.. Penn state is a joke for doing that. It is a lose lose

The pitt game went well, very high yards per completion, the defense looked very good and some playmaker a emerged on offense. Peterman now has the full year under his belt and seems to be learning Canada's offense very well

people who are predicting doom and gloom based on a spring game are beyond idiotic.. it's such a ridiculous idea that it's not even worth debating with. I am far from a kool aid /optimistic fan but I couldn't be more excited about this team.. My one big concern is stopping the run, I do fear we play a good team with a good O-line/run game, it could be a tough day.. More than excited about our offense, Our O-line is top 2 or 3 in the ACC (I suspect fsu and Clemson is loaded), we have 2 1,000 yard rushers in backfield with two younger guys with promise and a very experienced QB..

De is young and inexperienced and on paper, our front 7 is scary but the Duzz makes magic happen, think he can put together some plans to minimize weaknesses..

Todd Graham did the same thing. All 1st teamers on 1 team. Tino threw for 450 and the starters massacred the backups.

Its not a bad idea to do that when installing a new offense. The reps are more important than having an interesting, evenly played spring game for the fans. I just think its funny that's the approach PSU took.

the game format is for the fans, pure and simple. Some benefit to it im sure but coaches would rather see more reps with their True #1 and #2 lineups.. It's a nice gesture for fans, makes it an "event" over just an open practice..

I think both are true. While it is an event, I also think it's a good chance to see more players in game mode. See how different pieces fall together. Keeping a unit together is great until someone blows a knee in week #1. Then it's next man up.

Coaches coach all the time. Real ones do, anyway. It's safe to assume that the staff felt the format was the best means to the end they were hoping to achieve.

Most people understand this. Some people panic at everything.
