1. We almost covered the spread against a team picked to finish 4th in the Missouri Valley Conference.

2. I can recall at least one punt/field goal where we didn't get a false start or a delay of game.

3. Voytik is great at handing off.

4. The defense was in position at least twice.

Other than that, how did you enjoy the play, Mrs. Lincoln?

Real silver linings:

1) Grigsby looks like the new Todd Thomas, and the coaches actually kept him on the field.
2) Our running game outside the tackles was great, with runners and blockers getting it done.
2a) Ollison pulled quite the "Billy West replacing Curtis Martin" imitation today.
3) Our defensive front showed a lot of different stunts and blitzes, ending up with 5 sacks and plenty of pressure all around on the YSU QB.
4) Blewit's kickoffs were often unreturnable.
5) Our run defense up the middle was stout for most of the game.
6) Despite turning it over 3 times and only having 4 sustained drives (5+ plays and 35+ yards -- which were all in the first 1.5 quarters-- we scored 45 points.

And all against (again) the team picked to finish 4th in the Missouri Valley Conference...at home...with 20 more scholarship players. Lots to look forward to!

Hey a win is a win. Didn't you guys have a few people out for this game also? Congrats on the "w" hope we resume our series sometime in the near future. Conference realignment has really changed the game in a negative way.

There's that Pittsburgh point of view that quickly craps on any attempt by a sports fan to state some positives from an all-around subpar game. I haven't lived in the Burgh for a while, so sometimes I forget that optimism and hope have no place in Pitt's sports culture outside of an epicly monumental victory hailed by the entire nation.

Yeah, we had Tyler Boyd out, and he's not only a potential first-rounder, but really the only WR our QB likes throwing to. Also had the ACC Offensive Player of the Year injured early. Still, it was wayyy too close considering the opponent. A win is a win though and at least this team got some bumps worked out and their eyes opened.

I think WVU and Pitt are a long ways away from playing each other again, but hopefully in a bowl down the line. That would be amazing.

You're right! It's that "yinzer" in me that makes me so negative. I'm sorry. I really should be looking for more positives in an 8 point home victory against Youngstown State. Let's see....okay got some: 1. We didn't lose at home to Youngstown State 2. Connor's left knee seemed good.

Better?

Most of the posts about the game are negative, and that's fine considering the game. What takes your reaction to that typical Yinzer level is to bring the negativity to one of the very few posts that looks at some of the positives. It's like you're not happy with the vast majority of the posts being negative because they're not ALL negative.
