Hypothetically, if Pitt were to build a new stadium on/near campus, would that stadium include the track like Pitt Stadium? One negative about having the track inside of Pitt Stadium was that the fans were further away, especially the seats behind the endzones. So, if we are speaking hypothetically here, why not build stadium with movable seating section, making seats closer to the field for football?

Example.

if and when this stadium comes, you need to have the stands as close to the field as possible. If you can somehow make this into a track with crafty engineering, so be it but obviously a track is pretty far down the priority list.

A buddy of mine's son won the PIAA State 100 meter hurdles championship in 2001. he was recruited to Pitt to run track and was promised at the time that before his college career was over Pitt would have a brand new track facility.

This little snippet should tell you how high a track facility is on the priority list.

well pitt needs to get on it. What's the hold up? They can build a new softball field they should be able to build a new track. Did plans fall thru? Was there something actually set up or was it just all speculation?

Hypothetically expand the Pete into a multipurpose dome to house all sports. Track, tennis, band will all have a home! ND.PSU.WVU can be played outside at heinz as that's the only time Pitt ever sells out due to visitors buying season tickets. If funding permits, make it retractable roof. Build a mega garage on the old Trees field site. Have family tailgates on the soccer, baseball, softball fields. Use the Heinz school bus rental money for nice shuttles to ride older folks from lower parking to arena. Entice the holiday inn to be 'for Pitt only' hotel on game days so out o town fans aren't inconvenienced on the nooner kicks or weeknight games.

I would like to see a Pitt build the oft-discussed track and field complex as well. It's way overdue.

However, the reality is that about 50 or so people associated with university care one way or the other about that issue. That's why it hasn't been done yet and why it is not imminent still in 2016 even though the facility would be relatively inexpensive to build.

I know they have a spot saved up on the Hill but if I were Pitt, I would talk to the city about partnering on a plan to completely renovate the oval at Schenley Park. That could become a very cool little venue for the university and it could be a regular host of the WPIAL Track & Field Championships and other such events.

"Not in my park! Grrrr."

The problem with the Schenley Oval (and other city facilities) is that the city/Parks refuses to give Pitt practice scheduling and competition priority for its teams. Same thing as when Pitt wanted to turn Mazeroski Field next to Frick Fine Arts for the softball team...all to be paid for by Pitt and open to the public when not being used by Pitt. The City wouldn't go for it.

Schenley Oval would be a good idea, but it will likely never happen.

No track on the football field, but a track will be built. In coordinating an Athletic Facilities footprint for the Hill, a multi million dollar renovation of the track area at University Prep High School would make for a great collegiate track and field venue.

What about an underground track built under the pete or one of the new dorms? Revolutionary

Need to build both if they want anyone to ever take the T&F and XC programs seriously.

Do you know how much space Pitt needs t build a track facility? Assuming that they need to have an 8 lane track and stands for people to watch.

Pretty much hindsight now but I think with some out of the box thinking, they could have somehow put in a track in the new ballpark/soccerfield/softball field areas. Maybe a track around the soccer field in the middle?? Couldn't have been that hard (dimensions might be off)..

Also, haven't been back there in awhile but what's up with the old baseball field and the other field beyond it, behind the OC lot.. That's a lot of wasted green space back there. Is that being used for anything? Obvioulsy too small for any kind of football stadium but you could easily build some track and field type stuff back there..

I don't think they could have put a track around the new fields. Those fields are very tightly fit together. They did a great job squeezing three fields in that area. I believe the plan was to put a track down where the old baseball and softball fields were. I think they just never got funding to do it.

Which is why we're most likely going to build an indoor track, not an outdoor one.
Don't we still have one in the Fitz, or did that get axed for the Jump Rope team??

there was definitely a track in the fitz, I remember standing on it when I was trying to buy a 6 dollar pretzel at halftime of the pitt game..

I wouldn't stop there- work with CMU to develop a human teleporter to send the athletes to a less densely populated area while not offending anyone with a 15 minute drive to another more desirable location.

This plan seems much more feasible.
