After watching Clemson, Wake, and VT hit like 25 of their first 30 3s against us, its making me wonder why scouting services don't put HS players through some type of 3 point shooting analytical exercise. For example, speed and athleticism in football is extremely important, so the 40 and the shuttle are seen as important tells for a how good a player can be.

I remember when Brad Stevens went to Highlands to recruit Micah Mason, he hit something crazy like 95 of 100 3s in a shooting drill. Stevens didn't offer but Mason did go onto become the 4th leading 3 point shooter (by percentage) in D1 history....and the best in the P6/high major level. I realize Mason had defensive limitations and I don't mean this thread to be about him. But with all the data in sports now, it seems like it would be rather easy to produce some type of 3 point shooting drill to predict who will be able to make them consistently in college. Like, lets take a guy like, Femi. He may check other boxes but if he scores poorly in the 3 point shooting version of "the 40," perhaps thats a red flag like taking a WR who runs a 4.6 or whatever.

I say this because as we know, basketball has basketball just become a 3 point shooting competition, so you have to be darn sure you have consistent shooters on the floor

Ithiel was supposed to solve that Pitt problem . Who can forget hcjc raving about him when he sat out a year

Horton is a good 3 point shooter but not elite. Also, lets calm down a bit on Horton. The kid hasn't played basketball in a year. Its going to take a month for him to get back into form. No one is saying he's a great player but he's a league average guard and that's a massive upgrade over a Mercyhurst guard.

But, using Horton, as an example, if there was some 3 point shooting analytical drill/test, perhaps he gets better offers than Delaware. I feel like you can't really judge shooting that well in AAU and HS games. There has to be some drill/test that these kids should be put through. Basketball is JUST a 3 point shooting contest now. Literally, that's all it is. We should be having conversations like "We offered Player X. He may be a little small and there are questions about his defense but he scored a 102 on the SMF Drill, which put him in the top percentile so a shooter like that is worth the risk."

Horton can barely hit the side of the rim right now -
And that he literally stands still on offense isn’t exactly helping either

Well if you don’t have good shooters…for whatever reason…then you might want to have the perimeter pretty well defended.

Did everyone watch Storm Murphy without the ball? Dude was crazy quick getting open to receive the ball.
Did everyone also watch him
WITH the ball? Constant
movement whether he was
dribling, passing or shooting.
He drove around Horton and
others for layups and made
them look like statues.

That is the type of dude who would have gone to NC State out of HS instead of Wofford if they did the SMF 3 point test on him.
