I emailed him once abut something preposterous he had written. He immediately replied and I posted the reply here. Albeit a Pitt grad, Smizik wrote like he was actually out to get Pitt. Smizik and his crew at the Post Gazette made it cool to disrespect the local school. When people wonder why Pitt has a hard time getting the locals in the house, he's exhibit one - for over 30 years.

He was friendly to Pitt and even coached the alumni games in the 70s. Then Gottfried, Posvar and Co. started battling the sportsmedia who circled the wagons and went on full attack and never stopped. Those of you who don't get out of Western PA don't realize how bad your sports media is. The cattiness, vindictiveness, and baiting is not normal in other cities.
