** I’m pretty much out of words for this season. So I’ll quote @ChiefJusticeMarshall

** In the game thread, he said: “It is absolutely mind numbing we cannot run a decent offensive set where we get a good, uncontested easy shot. Everything, and I mean now 2 months total, everything is a chore and a score is usually off of an individual effort. And we just do not have good enough talent to have to play one on five every possession.”

** Yep.

** But everything else that has also been wrong since Stanford was on display.

** Turnovers. Rebounding. Being outmuscled. Giving up easy baskets in the paint. Giving up over 50% FG shooting. Trouble with screens leaving open three point shooters.

** This is about as far as I’ve ever seen a Pitt Hoops team fall in the course of a season in all my years watching the Panthers. It’s right up there with the 98-99 team, or maybe the 85-86 team. It could end up being worse.

** Should it be noted that both of those were the final seasons for the Coach who led the Panthers in each of those years?

** So where do we go now? Now that we know it won’t be the NCAA tournament, hopefully, we’ll show some pride and fire in the final seven games. That would be a start.

** Because we certainly didn’t show pride and fire tonight.

** We haven’t shown this for quite some time actually.

** That's all I've got. But I'll be there Saturday hoping for the best.

was it more painful to watch pitt’s ultra crappy offensive sets or Amy’s ultra successful sets?

Props to Guillermo for playing his ass off tonight.

Note it, brother!

Sadly, I think we're in the same place we were three years ago, in a holding pattern until the contract buyout gets low enough that we can afford to fire Capel.

This is Capel's worst coaching job. This was an NCAAT-level team last season. Lost Bub and Hinson but paid Lowe, Leggett, and Austin to stay and gave Corhen good money. This team better be darn careful because Miami has better players than they do but are very poorly coached. But the way things stand now, it's not like Miami will be at a coaching disadvantage. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Miami won.

Every team in the country has BLOB plays. We throw it into the back court. Joke of a coaching staff. Selfish players too

I watched half of the Miami game. They will put up 80+ against us.

Imagine what the uproar will be if we lose to Miami on Saturday. We'll somehow be favored to win that game, but God knows why. Our defense won't be able to keep anyone from scoring. And we'll need 80+ points to win that one. But now that the NCAAT is out of reach, maybe they'll just be more relaxed and play like they are having fun.

That makes two of us. Had no energy to bother commenting in the IGT. This team is a disappointment of epic proportions. It's clear that we need to make a change at the top. Unfortunately, we are probably stuck with JC for at least another year -- and it could be a very long year at that.

Stand around offense…lack of defense switching…embarrassing performance.

Let’s get ‘em Saturday!

Hail to PITT!
-Al-

I know the game was out of reach, but didn’t Cummings just look like a smoother ball-handler and initiator of the offense than Lowe? I really hope he can stay long term because he is a player.
He's the only part of the roster I'd really be concerned with retaining.

I’m with you. Put Corhen and Lowe on the first bus back to Texas together.

What I don’t get about Lowe is how many dribbles he takes before anything else happens in whatever set they are running. He is so inefficient running the offense.

I don't know about pride, but the university definitely needs to show some fire--as in, fire Capel.

I didn’t even realize we were playing until I got done with Westminster show and was looking for something else to watch and saw YTTV had the game in my available shows view. Turned on game and saw score and just switched to another show.

What’s became painfully obvious as this season continues to unfold is this “collective “ simply doesn’t have the horsepower/talent to overcome its weaknesses .

I know that coaching matters , but to me it’s more of a talent issue .

Do they coach them :
to miss open threes
to be out of position on defense and rebounding
to pass up open threes to drive into a packed lane
to ignore open teammates to drive to the hoop

I think the staff thought that they had addressed some of their weaknesses inside with the addition of Corhen and with Papa returning from injury and from the perimeter with the addition of Cummings and Delalic . It hasn’t worked .

Wasting limited resources ( cash ) on firing JC makes no sense when they need to find ways of funneling cash into the collective to outbid their competitors for talent . Winning teams and HOF coaches all have one thing in common great talent .

When was the last time we ran a play off and inbounds and scored? I honestly can't remember it's been so long.

There is literally no coaching going on whatsoever.
They’re even worse on defense. Count on at least (1) opposing player setting his career high in scoring every night and at least 5-7 maddening offensive rebounds and putbacks while a Pitt player stands there filing his nails or flailing around like some giant Giraffe. 🦒

It’s been (7) years and (1) Tournament berth. It’s time to rip off the bandaid and start over.

We were in the same mode last night. I didn't even realize there was a game. We were watching that Hulu series Paradise. I tuned in for part of the second half of the game and when I saw the same old, playground crap, no defense, no rebounding, I switched to something else.

Great choice. I couldn’t take anymore either.

JC is signed thur 29-30 and he’s going nowhere .

The last two yrs we watched some pretty good Bb this is not going to happen this yr .

The answer imo is simple , bring in better players and today it’s a lot simpler than trying to out recruit the next guy . You pay more than the other guy ! If Pitt can’t out bid other schools for talent than it doesn’t really matter who the coach is . Plus no good coach is going to any school without the resources to compete .

Resources or NIL are not the problem with this roster. The resources invested are not matching the results on the floor, which is the entire problem. Pitt isn’t playing poor, either in the AD resources invested into the program or NIL.

"Bring in better players"? I doubt with Capel, that will make much of a difference. What they're lacking now has to be coached...defense, rebounding, transition offense, ball movement. Talented players might be able to do all of that if they're coached. But we don't have that now.

What’s become obvious this year is the lack of consistent outside threat and rebounding , no amount of coaching is going to turn someone on this roster into a Jerome Lane or a Blake .

Thinking Pitt will buyout JC for many millions of dollars is delusional , put a fraction of that money into players , far more cost effective .
