No way they make it. This doesn't look like one of the best 11/12 teams. Sucks Clemson has to get the 12 seed though.

SMU has 0 wins against the current Top 25. They are only 2-1 (if they lose to Clemson) vs ACC Top 7. Schedule was very weak.

The school who I dont think should be granted this auto bid is Indiana. Also 0 wins vs curent Top 25. 0-1 vs B10 Top 6. 1-1 vs B10 Top 8. IU essentially played OSU and 11 mid-majors. So similar to SMU but IU gets a ton of credit for not forfeitting the game to OSU.

For me, Bama is in. The UGa win today helps them as they now have a win over the SEC Champ and 2 overall seed. It would be between SMU and IU but they said they arent re-ranking so they really cant push Bama ahead of IU. This is why I dont think you should rank teams ahead of time.

I don't know if SMU can still get in if they only lose by like 10. I think they can. The committee has talked about not wanting to set the precedent of penalizing conference championship game participants.

But Alabama is the better team.

Why? I mean look, they probably are but bama also
Lost to Oklahoma and vandy. Georgia for all intents and purposes should have lost to gt if not for a truly awful officiating performance.

Maybe they are, but it is angering that Georgia and Alabama basically have a buy to the playoffs

And yet, like SMU, PSU will finish with 2 losses and didn't beat anyone good either and will get the 5 seed.

They are giving WAY WAY WAY too much credit for losing to good teams. PSU has 1 Top 25 win. They are 0-2 vs B10 Top 4. 1-2 vs Top 6. Only 2-2 vs Top 9. 6-0 vs Bottom 9.

I would have

1. Ore
2. UGa
3. Boise
4. ASU
5. Texas
6. ND
7. OSU (beat PSU)
8. Ten
9. PSU
10. Alabama
11. SMU
12. Clemson

Out: IU

But this wont be it. PSU will get 6. IU will get a great seed. SMU out.

I might even swap Boise and ASU since Boise's only good wins are over UNLV but they get a lot of credit for their ore loss

I agree. They're definitely out if they end up losing bad in this game.

ACC can't catch a break. Gonna be a one team bid conference, which is all they deserve.

Alabama beat LSU.

SMU beat Louisville.

Those are pretty comparable.

But SMU then has no match for Alabama's wins over Georgia, Missouri, and South Carolina.

Especially not after South Carolina just beat Clemson last week.

Alabama is clearly better. But, like I said, if SMU keeps this within ten I think they might get the bid because the committee is treading carefully with this.

SMU fighting. This is good for them. I still think they need to win to get in but a close loss puts a lot of pressure on the committee. Really hard for to justify IU over them.

SMU won't get the bid simply because of conference reputation. Penn State and Texas have two losses and lost their conference championships, and not only will they make it but they will get decent seeds. If there is justice then Bama won't make it with their 3 losses.

Changed my mind. I'd put SMU in but IU out. They wont do that though. IU beat 11 mid-majors and that's good enough for the committee.

I think they probably but Bama in over SMU but man did they make it tough for the committee.

Again, this is why you dont rank the teams ahead of time. SMU, Alabama, Indiana. If you look at those 3 resumes, IU has to be out. They essentially played Ohio State and a MAC schedule.

The committee said they wouldn’t penalize conference champions for losing in championship games but I have no idea. The close loss really makes it an interesting decision.

My guess:

1) Oregon
2) Georiga
3) Boise
4) AZ St
5) Texas
6) Penn St
7) Notre Dame
8) Ohio St
9) Tennessee
10) Indiana
11) SMU
12) Clemson

PSU gets a cakewalk to the Semis, but Franklin refuses to win a big game so who knows.

Oregon-Texas UGA-PSU feels like the final 4.

You can't leave Indiana out. Anf they shouldn't leave SMU out. I hope they do the right thing.

I would. Indiana's schedule is so so bad. They only have 1 win over a team with a winning record and it was 7-5 Michigan. They played a mid-major schedule for all intents and purposes. What is the difference, really, between Indiana and Army? Both 11-1. Both weak schedules. Army lost to ND. IU lost to OSU. Can you even make a good argument for IU over Army? I mean maybe IU is good but we have no idea because they haven't played anyone.

I agree with the top 4.

Ohio State should be ranked ahead of Penn State. Only lost to Oregon by 1 and beat Penn State head-to-head.

Indiana is the worst team in the playoff field and should be 12th.

Will any of that happen beyond the top 4? Doubt it.

You can't leave an 11-1 Big Ten, ACC, SEC or B12 team out of a 12 team playoff. It doesn't matter how bad their sos is. And I do think Indiana has a good team.

You just can’t drop PSU that much for playing in a championship game. They won’t do it.

I agree about Indiana but, again, they aren’t going to flip rankings when teams didn’t play.

The one seed I can’t quite figure out is Notre Dame. They only have one loss. I don’t think Texas falls below 5, but could you flip ND and PSU? Maybe. But I don’t think they will.

I would normally agree. However, IU was a glitch. They played only the bottom of the Big 10. Alabama has 3 Top 25 wins + LSU but 2 bad losses. IU has no good wins and no bad losses.

They can do anything they want, it's a made-for-TV invitational. Common sense tiebreakers puts Ohio State ahead of Penn State. Yeah, they had a bad loss to Michigan, but we all know that's still a good team. Georgia lost by 18 to Ole Miss and are about to be #2 with 2 losses.

You can't hold the way their sos worked out against them if they only have 1 loss.

Ok lol, we will see.

They wont do it because they cant justify the 1 week drop for losing to #1. However, if you ranked the teams from scratch, its:

1. Oregon
2. UGa
3. ASU (wins over BYU, ISU, KSU is better than what Boise has)
4. Boise
5. Texas
6. ND but OSU is very close here due to
7. OSU
8. Tennessee (1 good, 1 bad loss)
9. PSU (no good wins, no bad losses)
10. Alabama
11. Clemson
12. SMU
13. Indiana

I see you’re hedging every possibility so
You can say you’re right

Texas somehow played the easiest possible SEC schedule. Their best win is a 4 loss Texas AM team. They didn’t play Bama, Tennessee, LSU, Ole Miss.

It’s such a weird year. The SEC teams don’t seem particularly scary. Maybe Oregon is just really good and they run away with it, but I could absolutely see Notre Dame, Tennessee, or Ohio St somehow making a run to the title game. PSU has as good a chance as anyone.

If the criteria for Penn St is no good wins, no bad losses, why are they 5 spots ahead of Indiana who has the exact same profile.

PSU and Indiana were both 11-1 and they both lost to Ohio St neither game close, PSU was at home, Indiana away.
