... by not participating in a bowl? Or does the conference bowl money pot just shrink commensurately?
In theory the conference will lose the overall pool of money if they dont fill bowl spots.
won't have to pay to feed and house a traveling party of 200+
Once again, the conference gives all bowl teams an allotment to cover their expenses.
only to cover extreme travel expenses like a game in California, El Paso, etc. The ACC isn't reimbursing anyone for a trip to Charlotte or Annapolis.
Once again you are so sure of something that you are absolutely wrong about.

It's from two years ago, but things are the same today as they were then. The "money quote" section of the story:
ACC
Each institution participating in a bowl game is provided an expense allotment, but all bowl revenue is divided evenly between conference members after subtracting expense allotments and ticket reimbursements. For this season, the Sun Bowl expense allotment is $1.326 million, the Pinstripe Bowl is $1.22 million and all other bowls are $1.167 million.
There's more to it than that, but if you want to actually know how it works instead of just assuming that it works the way that you have concocted in your head, read the story.
You realize we live in a post-truth era, right?
