So Does Luther and Cam start tomorrow?

A funny thing is that Maia started today, played the first 3 minutes, then never came in again?
Honestly that was fine by me. I think he should have come back in only at the end of the 1st half when both Jeter and Luther had 2 fouls. But I still wonder why it took Jamie 12 minutes to play arguable our best player the past few weeks.

Quicker for Luther this time I hope.

What about Smith?

UNC will play much more man than Cuse, so it won't be as good of a matchup for Cam.

Cam played lots of minutes at the two which we could get away with as Cam played the wing against the 2-3. We'll run lots of different sets against UNC that won't suit Cam as well.

We'll need Smith to play and play well.

Thx

Just think if Smith could start making 3's again, how huge that would be. I think if he gets that first one it'll give him some confidence and maybe he'd be able to get on a roll.

Different opponent, different styles.

Who starts doesn't matter much... what matters is the amount of minutes everyone gets.

I have a good feeling about Chris Jones today. Just a hunch.

Sure but against a team like UNC I probably want to be stretching the floor from the tip. Maybe Jamie thinks that Ryan matches up better with Meeks and brings him in when UNC goes to their second unit but I would rather have our best team out there from the beginning against a team with the ability to put us away in the first ten minutes.

It is definitely an interesting situation. In the NBA, Manu Ginobili has been coming off the bench for years and it has worked for the Spurs; Havlicek as well for the old Celtics. The caliber of players and leagues is different of course, but it came across my mind watching today's game. I thought Luther might get the start today, but I think Jamie likes him off of the bench for now. If Pitt gets hot, then putting Luther in later helps to continue that trend and give rest to some other guys. If Pitt goes cold, he can put Luther in to create a spark.

I also have to wonder if the second L'Ville game is on Jamie's mind. He had to rest Luther late in the game with the lead, and it turned some of the momentum around. Maybe he assumes that if he can get 'x' good minutes out of Luther (30 or so?) that he would prefer it be towards the end of the game as opposed to the beginning?

Having said all that, Jamie could attempt to disrupt UNC's game plan tomorrow and start him, and it could all be moot

Again "start" is meaningless.... look at Maia.

If Luther plays 30 minutes but doesn't "start", is that less useful than Maia starting and getting 5 minutes?

MINUTES matter... not whether you're a starter or not.

Agreed.

I think it helps Luther to come in off the bench at this point, so there is a little less focus/pressure on him. Let Maia put his body on Meeks a bit to start to help create a little more difference with Luther.

Toree Morris started a LOT of games, played until the first stop in play and didn't play again until that repeated to start the second half.

As noted, PT is PT.

In the post, not starting can be a good thing. I don't have a stat to back it up but anecdotally, it seems that zebras like to call a foul eatly in the paint to set the tone on how much contact they're going to allow. Luther and Young will have their hands full with Meeks and Carolina's bigs. Preventing an early foul on either would be nice.
