...the board won't be filled with "I know [insert loose Sean Miller connection] and he'd love to come back home if Coach Y wasn't here" whenever Pitt makes their next hire?

We finally done with that?

I mean, the guy freaking subtweeted Pitt in his withdrawal tweet. There was no reason for him to go out of his way to be overly complimentary of Jamie Dixon and the job he did here, but he did just that.

-Yea, really. So two sides didnt line up correctly. So what...

-Keatts is still in play, thats been my top choice all along followed by Miller.

Oh, good. We get to play the "it just didn't line up" game instead and give the next guy a shorter leash because the Pantherlair sources indicate Sean would REALLY like a change this time.

-Whats the point of dwelling on something that didnt happen? You act like all is lost and Pitt just sank to the bottom of the ocean. Patience, didnt I say that yesterday? Remember, it has to be a good fit for both sides, Pitt and the new Coach.

Don't worry. Miller is just waiting for Pitt to be a top 5 program instead of top 10 THEN he'll come home.

I care, because I have been told it is ok to let Dixon go because pitt would make a splash hire.

It isn't happening, and if Barnes' coach isn't in the tourney by year three, and a sweet 16 by year 4, Barnes should be canned.

It doesn't matter if Pitt let him go or not if he he didn't want to be here any longer you can't hold him against his will,Dixon wanted a new start you can't blame him, don't blame Barnes for what happaned

I really have no feelings one way or the other regarding Pitt's current position.

I'd just like to not have to constantly deal with the "yeah, but...." feeling that there always seems to be with Pitt's basketball program and Sean Miller.

We have a new coach on the way, and I'd like to try to enjoy and analyze him instead of needing to still read Sean Miller's name on here because people aren't satisfied and would like to hold on to a pipe dream.

By year three? Are you serious? The new hire needs to be in the tourney next year given the returning talent and the incoming recruits if he is any good.

I really don't want people to get into blaming Barnes. I liked Dixon and think he was underappreciated but if his heart wasn't here there's no way he should have been held hostage by Barnes.

That's toxic for both sides.

"I care, because I have been told it is ok to let Dixon go because pitt would make a splash hire." - Who said that?????

Find the quote and repost it here. I want to see who said that. If you can't find the quote, then it wasn't said.

Dixon would have them in--even if barely. The new guy if he is really good needs to begin by accomplishing the following--

1. Retain all returning players who contributed.

2. Keep the recruiting class intact.

3. Fill the last ship with a respectable post player (either a recruit or JUCO or Sr transfer).

4. Make the NCAAs or at least come close in year one. If he accomplishes 1,2, and 3 above that should happen.

If, instead he blows things up and doesn't at least accomplish 1 and 2 above he will be done and we will be B.C. by year 2 or 3.

I truly feel that Barnes didn't want dixon here...and that Barnes wanted his own guy. Dixon left because he knew that.

That is just a feeling, but given how many chances dixon had to leave, I have to hint that barnes had a large part in this.

There is no exact quote, but it is the logical conclusion. There is no reason to push Dixon out if you are going to hire mark Schmidt.

I think Dixon is still one of the top 20-25 coaches in the country. Letting him go and irking him to the point he left is asinine if you downgrade. Also, given Barnes' comments on style of play, I think it is pretty obvious he wanted Dixon gone.

So what if he got them in and they lose in the first round? The real question will how we look in the w-l column and roster shape in 2-3 years. And we won't be bc.

This team should probably make it to the tourney next year.

I think a lot of JD ,but let's look back in 4/5'yrs and see just how good he does at TCU

If everyone comes back, it should, and if the recruits still come it really should and I think should be better. However I am expecting turnover, and a drop back.

That is irrelevant. I want him to do well there, but if Pitt gets better that is fine. If Pitt does poorly though, regardless of how Dixon does in ft worth, it is a colossal failure.

How good would Pitt be if he stayed somewhere his heart wasn't in it? It's done move on ,let's hope next yr at this time Pitt will still be playing and you'll be a happy camper .

What do you mean by in the tourney by year 3????? With the players we have returning + Millikan + new recruits we AT LEAST better make the tourney next year. We were l missed layup from getting into the second round this year. Dixon could at least have gotten us into the dance next year and that wasn't good enough for many on this board!

I was expecting a solid top 20 or better team next season. All major contributors back except jrob. Unless some drastic defections happen I still expect that kind of season.

Losing 18 pts / game from a team that avged 75.
The defense would have probably been the same or maybe somewhat better. Jeter, young, artis, jones, Luther all solid. Cam could be breakout. Jones probably the same maybe a bit better.

These guys were pretty good but just didn't seem to have the consistency and mental toughness. Maybe another year adds it?

The table is set for one of those " yeah but he won with Xs players" type seasons.
