But, but, but I was told told Napier was following Narduzzi on twitter.....
The only reason people thought it was Napier was because he followed Conklin and Narduzzi on Twitter.
As I've pointed out a few times, Napier and Conklin coached together for a year and coached in the same state, South Carolina, for a decade. Definitely know each other well. So basically Napier just followed a friend and a friend's boss on Twitter.
I didn't think Napier was a fit stylistically because of his believed coaching background and experience. Very much pro-style from his time at Clemson and Bama. Bama was more spread this year and he is going to a spread team in ASU, but I never saw Napier as a creative spread coach, something Narduzzi was said he wants to continue building on from Canada.
If you listen to a Napier interview you'll see he's a good ol' southern boy. Think if he came here he'd be looking for the first chance to get back down South.
Also has a lot less experience as an OC than Narduzzi's first two hires.
I wouldn't have to hear an interview. I've met him and shook his hand on several occasions. He is a Southern boy, but the key is finding a good OC. We aren't going to keep anyone who is really good for more than a few years anyway. Doesn't matter if they are from Fox Chapel or McKees Rocks or Oregon or Alabama.

The day you hire someone based on whether or not he stays. Over someone who has a better track record of success. Is failed logic

I agree key is finding a good OC and I don't care where he's from and don't even want a "Pitt guy" for the job. I was just pointing out his whole career was down South, and now out West. Didn't see him staying in Pittsburgh long.
Alabama has a different offensive coordinator almost yearly. As long as the players can handle a new playbook you can get by replacing your coordinators. As long as you have head coaching stability your program is fine. I don't think Pitt will even consider how long a guy will stay for. Although do they not have to really be thinking about the guy from the falcons now? This is getting to be insanely long to hear nothing.
The OC hire has become a shit-show.......its getting very Matt House like & that is scary!!

Why don't you wait and see who we hire and how they perform. People were saying the same about Canada last year. Get over it.

It was bad enough if we are letting Alabama hold us hostage but......we don't really compete with them for recruits, the coach can likely really recruit, and we'll Saban is Saban. We battle Michigan state for recruits all the time and they don't do us any favors coming into western pa and taking recruits. Plus what are they holding onto.

He is the recruiting coordinator at MSU, and when did they take a local recruit from Narduzzi?
I don't care what his position is. They recruit western pa. The linebacker from Erie lists them as his first offer. This is college football.
This is Pitt. They are not going to spend 200k + on a buyout if it does not impact their current recruiting class and the HC does not care.

The hire has nothing to do with recruiting any offensive players, i.e. It is not costing us anyone. That's not being a kool aid drinker. That's being realistic. SO many people bitched about Canada last year and wound up looking like idiots because they were completely wrong. You would think a year later people would learn.

Remember, people also complained during and after the Villanova game last year because he stunk. I was arguing with my buddy during the game and in the parking lot afterwards that they were playing vanilla. He didn't believe it. Then the PSU game hit and the offense was completely different.
not just OC's but position coaches as well. he's had several assistants over the last 3-4 years leave for better jobs. we've had two if you count chaney. but most on this board tell you the narduzzi/chaney didn't work out so he was leaving one way or the other.
Funny side note: there are actually Arizona State fans on Twitter that think we're jealous of them.

I like to keep debate to message boards and not randoms on social media, though I think he deleted the tweet questioning Pitt's all-Americans/draft picks. Probably came to his senses.
We all already behind the 8 ball in recruiting a QB for next years class. You need continuity at some point in this position if you ever wanna move away from the QB recruiting status quo PITT has been in for years.
Plus who in the world was complaining about Canada last year? Most people I knew thought that was a solid hire at the time.
Are you kidding me? There were a bunch of people who thought it was a bad hire. They said he was a retread, he was fired from NC State.
They started recruiting QBs last summer for next year.

Alabama. Great guy. Good family man. Football junkie, who has learned a ton from Saban. Fantastic recruiter and knows how to schmooze with boosters.
He wouldn't, if he was successful. No one would. They would jump for a bigger OC job or HC position, just like Canada.
