This is the kind of game that could make or break their season. Lose it, and you're toast. Win it, and maybe they get the kind of momentum that can salvage a season. For that reason, they may be especially amped for this one.

Well, I wish they would have won last weekend. I think they will be especially desperate, even though I don't think they are that good with the injuries they suffered. We will see what type of team they are and what type of team we are. We had two weeks to shake off the Iowa game. This has been the type of game we lose over the years, so I hope we come out with a strong start and win the game.

I see Motley running for 150 yards. I like Narduzzi's comment when he said if he wants to be a tailback, we should treat him like a tailback (ie hit him)

I see this game as being very similar to Pitt's last game in terms of the level of competition. Pitt could've beaten Iowa but didn't.

So this week, it's a familiar conference foe. VaTech is decent, but certainly not in the "great" category - they're beatable. Winning these kinds of games are what makes a team's season, and they help to build a team's national image and reputation, too. While Pitt has to lay beatings on the YSU's and Akron's on the schedule, it really gets recruits' attention when you go on the road in front of a hostile crowd and beat a team who's a slight favorite.

It's time for Pitt to step-up and do some damage.

VT will come out fired up in front of their home crowd, albeit a completely rain-soaked crowd. PITT needs to take the fire out of their team immediately, rather than trying to play catch-up like they did at Iowa. I think points will be hard to come by in this game, with both teams relying on the run in what should be pretty awful weather condition. The team that takes advantage of turnovers or sloppy special team play will win.

Based on what I saw in the Iowa game, I like PITT's chances with getting after a QB who likes to run the ball. The PITT D absolutely mauled Beathard, just like they did Chapman in the Akron game. Although Motley is slightly larger than Chapman, there will be no hesitation from the PITT D when it comes to putting a big hit on their QB and forcing him to get a little uncomfortable running with the ball.

My concern is Motley running the ball. While Pitt blasted away at Beathard, he scrambled quite a bit their last drive.

It's certainly a concern. However, I don't believe that Motley possesses the passing ability that Beathard has. His primary weapon are his legs, which Pitt souks new able to contain with 8-9 guys in the box.

What I'm really interested in seeing is how PITT maintains gap control when VT tries to spread them out. Interior pressure from the DTs is paramount, along with the DEs maintaining the edge.

Depends on how deep the water gets.

I'm not worried about them, given their level of talent (which I believe to be no better than ours) and key players out. I'm more concerned about us playing solid four quarters..
