Guys like Jarvis Jones who need to be schemed up to hit the QB while in college, usually don't translate to the pros. Not to mention he had terrible measurables for the position.

I remember a concern being that he accumulated like half of a season's worth of stats going up against a specific tackle in the Florida game.

The stat I heard on Jones was 12 of his 14 sacks in his senior season came when being blocked by a fullback or tight end. Also recall he had some sort kind of spine issue. He had no shoulders either as they looked like chicken wings. It didn't take long for Greg Lloyd to even speak up and say Jones looked so underwhelming.

I still don't know who was worse, Jones or Bush? Devin gets no pass for the injury IMO. He was awful two years later.

The fact that they traded up and took Bush 7 spots higher makes his selection worse by default in my mind, even if he is a marginally better player.

I think Bush is worse just because he cost a 1, 2, and a 3 at a lesser valued position to boot. That was straight chasing the ghost of Shazier, and it cost them.

I completely agreed with this post until I started to think about it. I wanted to see just how bad it was from an award and starting seasons perspective. I definitely think there are a few recent contenders after looking at some numbers. I took the top 32 picks, rather than just the first round.

When I got to 2015 and saw that it was arguably even worse, I spread out a few more seasons. I'm not counting each season, but both 2013 and 2015 had 12/32 picks make at least one Pro Bowl, 2009 only had 10 players ever make a Pro Bowl. But 2015 obviously still has more players active in the league so they might get a few more Seasons Started but highly unlikely to earn any All Pros or Pro Bowls except maybe Leonard Williams who went 8 years between Pro Bowls. But 2013 has Lane Johnson from the Eagles who has 3 straight Pro Bowls and All Pro nods in the past few years.

Pro Bowls are next to meaningless these days. Didn't Russell Wilson make it last year, after everyone else told them they'll be busy washing their hair that day?

This year's draft feels like it could trend in this direction. There were players going in the third that were late-round prospects. Just not a lot of top-end talent in 2025.

The 83 draft is considered the gold standard.

Yep and that is reflected in the numbers. But the 2011 class is pretty close.

1983 had seven Hall of Fame picks in the first 32 picks, as well as Henry Ellard who is like 1 step below the Hall.
2011 will probably have 5 HOF's, possibly 6. Von Miller, Patrick Peterson, Julio Jones, J.J. Watt, Cameron Heyward. Then you have Tyron Smith who might make it. Cameron Jordan probably won't but he's up there in the Ellard tier.

The first 2 rounds of 2020 is trending pretty well…

— 5 Long-Term Franchise QBs (Burrow, Herbert, Tua, Love, Hurts)

— 2 Hall of Fame Level WRs (Justin Jefferson, CeeDee)+ 2 big money 2nd contract WRs (Tee Higgins, Michael Pittman)

— All-Pro RB (Jonathan Taylor)

The first-round defensive players didn’t really pan out, but Highsmith and Antoine Winfield are 3rd rounders who ended up playing like 1st rounders.
