Aaron Mathews recruitment/commitment stirred the twitter pot. And, a coach and another recruit got involved. There was a reaction to what was considered negative tweets about his decision, even though it was directed mostly at a single tweet. This happens all the time on twitter from different fanbases disappointed in the decisions of recruits. It is crazy that people get so emotional over something they cannot control. And, it is crazy that recruits even consider the reactions of fans on social media. If they do, they need to get their priorities straight. Fanbases are the same everywhere, but of course, the local ones get exposed. I certainly don't want Pitt fans looking bad by tweeting/posting negative things, because they come flying back at us, but, that being said, it is a reality that it happens, and happens to others, too. Recruiting brings out the best and worse in fanbases, and coaches, recruits, and rival fans should realize it, and let it go. Our targets Hamlin, Hudson, Ford, Wade, and others are very active on twitter. I hope they, and all others, are mature and intelligent enough to make their decisions based on the quality of the school, program, and coaches, not emotional fan responses.

Lamont wade is too short, Damar Hamlin is too tall, Hudson is too slow, Paris Ford is just right!!!!!!!

I reserve the right to change my opinion on any of them depending on where they play their college ball.

Welcome to 24/7, instant communication. Sad state of affairs. I agree with OP on everything.

Then you get the "fans" that pretend to follow one team only to act like an ass so that team that they are "representing" looks bad.

Most of this started when Dokish simply stated he wasn't sure what position Matthews would play. Somehow that was spun to be a negative tweet against Matthews.

Then, when interviewing Matthews on his commitment to PSU, he stated they were recruiting him as an athlete and were unsure where he would play. However, this was somehow not a negative for Matthews.

In the end, the people living in Pittsburgh associated with the PITT program want nothing but the best for local players. Our opinion is that PITT is the best option both academically and athletically, and naturally want these guys to stay "home". Sometimes that doesn't work out for a number of reasons.

Hopefully this young man fulfills his dream at the next level.

I get the main point of your post ...... but EXACTLY what was said on Twitter that stirred the pot and what recruits/parents/coaches got involved ??? ..... there are several threads on this topic and very little in the way of facts, just innuendos.

See my post above. The only addition is that Mr. Wade, the Clairton coach, got involved. Ultimately, because this is written text rather than a verbal conversation, the context of Dokish's post was lost.

Recruiting & twitter annoys me. I find it ridiculous that fans need to stick up for their fanbase because of some morons, who may not even be fans of that team and just trolling, strong life.

I only graduated from HS almost 6 years ago, but I feel like high schoolers today are even more into social media to indulge their egos. Most of us just used Facebook in high school (and MySpace before then, hah) but nowadays these kids use Instagram and Twitter, where things like the number of likes you get and the number of followers you have just totally define your own self-worth. I would hate to be a high schooler right now. But I would get a kick out of being a 5-star recruit on Twitter, seeing all the nonsense.

So you are saying that Matthews and Coach Wade may have interpreted Dokish's statement as meaning Matthews may not be good enough to play any position in college when to the contrary he probably meant that of all the positions Matthews could play in college, it is unclear at present which one he will play in college. (????)

I posted earlier this week that if Matthews had an offer from Pitt and he accepted it, I'd be glad to have him at Pitt ..... I think he would be a good possession type WR or OLB ...... I think Matthews actions have shown that he wanted to go to PSU and when he got the offer, he accepted it ...... good for him ..... now both sides should move on.

Matthews needs to get some thicker skin. Dokish's Tweets were in no way a shot at the kid.

Really? I agree. But all Aaron Matthews and Bob Wade did is exactly what 100 Pantherlair fans do on every Ron Cook article or any local article or talk show discussion. If it isn't 100% positive, they completely misconstrue and misinterpret columns and hate on the messenger. Matthews and Wade acted like all of you, when someone may question attendance, or if the season was really that great, or if we are headed in the right direction or not. Same thing. They just acted like fans.

They acted like most of you. I am not saying they are correct, because really no one was really hating on the kid. But for us to act surprised, well they reacted like you guys do to most every local article about Pitt football.

Agree with everything you said. Matthews looks like a solid player who could fit the roles described, along with a hybrid TE if he put on 30 pounds.

I think you are getting your Wade's confused. Lamont Wade is obviously the DB recruit. The twitter reply from the other Wade was from his father, Carlton, who many may remember as a local hoop star years ago. The head coach of the Clairton Bears is Wayne Wade, who is actually Lamont's cousin(Carlton's nephew). So, in short, Pitt got negatively blasted by Lamont's dad, not Lamont's head coach. Still, not a good look if we hope to get the kid-just a clarification.
Additionally a white, bearded "assistant" of the Bears got involved in the discussion, going after Dokish and Pitt. He is mostly irrelevent. Clairton has about as many "assistants" on the sidelines as they do players.
Lastly, I would only clarify that Coach Wade and former Coach Nola have had a long, positive relationship with the Pitt football program. Regardless of what happens with Lamont, I don't think that changes.

Truly, any player or coach that takes Twitter too seriously needs to take a step back.

Why you would pay attention to what any anonymous jackass would say is beyond me.

If you can't take the good with the bad, stay off of it or understand their are goofballs out there. Also, like there aren't people who only write something to piss someone off or to pose as a fan of another team to plant a negative seed.

Thanks for the clarification. Under his twitter handle, it states Clairton Coach, which is the cause of confusion for several people checking in on the situation.

I just hope all Wade parties involved understand the folks saying negative things regarding Matthews are very likely PSU fans.

The simple fact is Narduzzi wasn't recruiting Mathews as a receiver and didn't want him on offense there isn't room for him on our recruiting class and Matthews knew that. He waited too long and lost the opportunity to play at pitt. Wish the kid well and that's that

a couple points.....

1.Quite frankly every fanbase has wackos
2.Social media is the bane of life's existence
3.If a kid chooses another school because of what is said by an opposing school, well more power to them I guess but it is a stupid reason for doing so....The real world sucks kid and it will only get worse once you hit college and the pros

I was interested in seeing what was said so I looked at a few timelines. 2 things:

1) Seems like Wade is not coming to Pitt; but to PSU
2) Paris Ford is still pushing hard for Pitt

100% correct on #2 and I wouldn't give up on #1 because of some rift on twitter over a few comments taken WAY out of whack.

I don't think any kid makes a college choice over what some moron says on twitter. It just seemed very odd to me that the damn didn't break wide open on all this until AFTER hackenberg threw the dominator under the bus.
