Softball Sweeps Marshall; Baseball Walk-Off Win over LIU

The softball team swept a doubleheader from Marshall, winning the opener 6-5 on a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 7th before winning the nightcap 8-0. McKayla Taylor’s 2-run homer ended that game in the bottom of the 6th under the Mercy Rule.

Meanwhile, the baseball team beat LIU 2-1 on a walk-off hit in the bottom of the 9th. It was a frustrating game because Pitt had runners in scoring position in almost every inning, including loading the bases with none out in the 8th, but couldn’t score after taking an early 1-0 lead. LIU, which had seldom threatened before the 9th, plated the tying run in that frame.

Baseball sweeps also winning 2nd game 1-0. Long Island had bases loaded and no out on the top of the 9th and Feure K'd the last 3 guys.

UNC lost to SU in softball today, so if Pitt can beat UL 2 of 3 next weekend, they get first place in the Coastal!

That’s their best shot for making the NCAAs. It would give them the #2 seed in the ACC tourney, which would mean they wouldn’t face FSU until the final if they make it that far.

My concern would be if they face a really hot pitcher, like the Duke pitcher who shut them down earlier.

Also--Pidich had a NO-HITTER with 2 outs in the 9th, then a double (their first hit) tied the game in the top of the 9th.
