I realize this comment might come under others threads but after watching the U vs NC game tonight and the HCPN's final video something finally struck me that he said that made no sense in reference to this week's games and many others. Please forgive my slow learning curve as I know many of you got this before my ah ha moment. But here it is. HCPN said "We want to make teams one dimensional and stop the run." So says PN time after time. How many times have I (we) heard this and at first, second, third hearing it makes sense to me as an old time FB fan. I am an old guy and if you can't run you don't win football games so goes the myth. And here is where PN is MISTAKEN, Teams like UCF are already one dimensional. You do not need to make them one dimensional. They pass the football. They don't depend on the run. Stopping their run is a waste of time if you think that will make them one dimensional. You are just appealing to their strength. If you really want them to be one dimensional take away their one dimension passing and force them to run the football - a new dimension. Think of it this way. You can slow down their offense by controlling the ball on our O or by making them run rather than chunking yards passing. I think PN has it backwards for a lot of spread teams we play and this speaks to a lot of what others have said. With the lack of OL push our emphasis on defending running the FB my be the wrong emphases. This is Big thinking. I would sooner we stop the pass and compete on rushing than our current approach. We would have done much better against OSU if they had to run to score last year so I believe.
