On Stanford second TD drive twice we were a second late on getting to the QB.

Why was Davis in on first and goal after long pass to Mack?

Better play calling nets us 3more FGs

Thought the hit to Picketts head should have been a personal foul.

After Pickett ran so successfully on the first half TD drive, where did those plays go?

Pickett missed a few open throws today. Two to Mack and the circle route to Davis. That was a good play design that should have been a big play. I don't know if Davis ran a bad route or Pickett made a bad throw, but Davis should have caught the ball anyway. Lopes also failed at a chance for a big play when he did not take advantage of the defender not looking for the ball on an under throw.

What happened on the long FG?

Not taking sacks gets Pitt at least two more FG tries. I was wondering the same after those between the tackles RPOs that worked so well.

Long FG was just shanked. Snap and hold were fine and no pressure up front.

Not taking sacks......

We saw the same movie with Tino.

Pickett is the sequel

He also never steps up in the pocket. He always wants to drift backwards and ends up 20 yards behind the LOS. It’s a bad habit he needs to break if he wants to keep the job.

I listened driving home from Florida

I had a bad feeling somewhere in mid 3rd because Pitt was kicking their asses all over the field (including and especially passing)... but still cling to a six point lead ... I kept thinking ok one more TD or FG and they probably have it... if not there’s always a chance they finally score and go up by one...

Unbelievably in the flukiest way imaginable they score in some half assed manner on a fumble... like I said unbelievable. Stanford didn’t earn a win they friggen fumbled into it.... horrible way to lose... then I knew pretty much even with 12 min left it was over...

Also on final play ( think it was 4th and 3 on Pitts 25)..., why throw? Yeah Pickett got the first down before from the 3 earlier.... but Pitt can’t dial a single running play to pick up 3? That seemed insane to be honest.

I actually think the throw on that wheel pattern to Davis was pretty good, he wasn't open he was covered the ticket through it back shoulder to him. Problem is he was a running back, a young one too.

He did have some bad misses, obviously that overshot on the Deep out to Mack, a few of the slants. Agree with observation that he tends to break out to his left too much when he feels pressured. That's why he didn't make that throw to Lopes in the end zone. He really had no chance to make that throw breaking to the left like he did, people are just listening to the announcer who got that wrong. But he should have stepped up on that and had he he would have been able to make the throw. It was only a for me and rush, and the guards actually head really done a good job blocking.
I've defended KP, but he has to take a BIG step up next year.
Their touchdown drive was what they should have been doing a lot this year. I just don't understand why Watson wasn't using more RPO, and that read zone.
Pickett can run a bit, and is a fairly tough kid. Got to take advantage of that ability to smooth out his rawness is a passer at this point.

He tried to step up a few times and had defenders in his face. Tom Brady would be frustrated with the amount of time Pickett gets.

Absolutely agree. Running is a big part of his game. We saw that on the touchdown drive. They cant take that away from him.

They need to stop the roll out with the three layers of receivers on one side of the field. That scheme has been scouted and is no longer effective.

A QB coach needs to tell Pickett he does not need to throw the ball as hard as he can on every play. It also needs to be stressed to him the importantance of avoiding sacks.

In spite of the opinions of many on the board, I still think Pickett is the real deal. He is tough, has leadership qualities and the it factor. He needs a scheme suited o him, better surrounding players and normal maturation.

I actually would like to see two backs in the backfield on some passing plays. That one blocker does not seem to be getting it done.

Watson has some bizarre sadomasochistic urge to call those stupid counter roll out short side pass plays. The DE is never fooled, so Pickett has to roll deeper at a full run, there is almost no one open, and even if there is some one to throw to it is only for a 5, 6 yard completion with no chance for any RAC.

Not to mention that they roll him to the short side of the field frequently which naturally compresses the defense. They do the same thing on jet sweeps, which defies common sense.
