Main reason is he is way too short to have an impact. Against average competition he is fine but not even close against top talent.

He looked fairly good early on but not so much lately. However I doubt there's too many guys in the country that could have covered Fuller in the same situations they put Maddox in. He had no help. Hell I bet a handful of NFL corners would have had trouble with that much open space to cover Fuller.

And on a larger note this showed how outgunned Pitt is at the moment. Boyd, Whithead and maybe Price (situationally) are the only guys on Pitt's team that would see any significant time if they were on ND's roster.

I'm still optimistic long term. Maybe (hopefully) some of the younger guys will develop but they have a little ways to go in getting some real talent and depth.

I thought this guy was a stud earlier in the season. Not only has he been terrible lately, I even thought he was horrendous returning kicks today. The last TD though, it sucked really bad but hard to blame him. He and the receiver both had the ball, but the receiver was bigger and had more control of the ball.

I come in peace and with the love of the Lord in my heart. Pitt can't play with the big boys right now.I believe the players and coaches did the best they could possibly do given the talent disparity.

He did what he could against one of the top 5 receivers in the country

stop being a tool Pitt's gonna be fine with this staff

Hail to Pitt

Maddox is having problems with receivers who are 6" taller, but he is constantly being left on an island. Coach seems to be really rigid in his defense scheme.
We had virtually zero pressure from the defensive line today, excepting of course, Price, when he was able to avoid being thrown around like a rag doll by the behemoth at tackle. Linebackers are too laterally slow to fill gaps on runs. We were just out-manned today. Thank God for Whitehead: It seemed like he made 20 tackles
Nd's QB, when not being blitzed was able to post several tweets before he started his progressions.
Those who thought that Coach Narduzzi could magically transform this perennial 6 - 6 team into a world-beater with a wave of his wand should by now realize that this is not a one year project.
I am proud of this team and the staff. They have a great attitude and never quit (unlike some of us, who merely sit and whine).
They will win, at worst, 2 of the last 3. We are definitely headed in the right direction.

Seemslike a great kid. A very talented player. He had 2 bad weeks and then today he ran into Fuller and we didn't have a pash rush.

Kid is a huge asset, only a soph, and will play on Sundays.

Anyone hating on him please back off.

Funny, I clearly recall all the hate postings on Vinopal when he was learning his position at Pitt too?? Then he went on to a pretty good career! Fuller caught some great passes no question about it, but these Pitt Players play all game long, and I can wait for them to be coached up even more in the future! After all, Vinopal did it!

We shall see?

The kid does stick to his man quite well. In that sense he looks very promising.

But it's not enough to stay with the WR step for step. He needs to work on getting his hand up a little faster and breaking up the pass. If he does that we can talk about him being a NFL caliber player.

You can't teach height. When they get a taller talented replacement maybe he moves to slot receiver. In any event he is a freshman and will get better even as a DB.

He reminds me of the Steelers Cortez Allen. Always seems to be in position...but never makes a play. Receivers are always making the catch with Maddox/Allen nearby. Some guys just don't have IT! The Steelers finally cut Allen. Its time to demote Maddox (how bad could the next guy up be?).

I still have hope for that as well. I think his problem is Ike Taylor syndrome. I gotta start by saying Ike was one of the most underrated Steelers of all time. There was a few years where you could make an argument he was as good of a cornerback as anyone in the league. His downfall was his cockiness, celebrating after getting burnt only to have the receiver drop the ball. I see a little bit of that attitude with Maddox on the field. He's still young though and I'm hoping next year he puts it all together and has a complete season of playing great football.

With the lack of pressure that our defense put on the QB I'm afraid that not even Darelle Revis would have been able to stop those td's. Learn a bit how the game is played and understand that CBs work better with pressure being laced on the QB before criticizing Maddox. # H2P

A lot of the problems that the D-backs are experiencing will be alleviated once Pitt gets a better, more consistent pass rush.

Agree with the pressure on the QB being a problem. I'm sorry though but the Revis statement is laughable. Have you ever watched the Jets? Do you know why they call him Revis Island? That is what he makes a living doing. I'll give you the fact the Jets pressure the QB and that makes it easier on him. But Revis is literally out on an island by himself almost every play and has no problem shutting every receiver down. You are 100% right about Maddox though, we pressure the QB and he just may go back to playing like the stud corner he was early in the season. He's got a ton of potential still, he's just not playing good at all lately.

Agree with all but the Sundays part. He has had a tough stretch and is really struggling against these bigger, more athletic receivers. I still think he will be a good college CB, but he is neither big enough nor fast enough to play the position in the NFL. NFL CBs are athletic freaks. Maddox can get better technique wise, and needs to get better, but he can't make himself taller or faster. He also has limited upside to get a lot stronger, and he has really struggled to jam the bigger, more athletic wide outs in press coverage.

If you want to see future NFL CBs, watch a game between 2 good SEC teams, like the one last night.

He's just too small for some of these matchups right now.. Thankfully. they took him off kr.

The bottom line is the D line has not played up to the competition . Thus the whole linebacking and secondary have suffered because of it ..
