Narduzzi to Wade, Jeter, Hamlin, etc:

"Guys, you can see we are doing everything we can and getting every ounce of ability out of the guys we have but I will be very honest with you. We need better players. I need you to come play for your hometown team and start from Day 1. That's your opportunity. You can go to Ohio State or ND or some place else and maybe you start right away or maybe they recruit another US Army All-American who plays your position. You can see we fought hard but we need the WPIAL's best on the field.

What's his pitch to offensive players You need at least 11 of those to play a game of football.

I think the problem will be when the recruits compare game day atmospheres.. Some recruits will look past it, but some will not!

I always wondered? Would you rather ride the bench with Ohio State's "game day atmosphere" or would you rather START AND PLAY right away, with the stadium 2/3rds full? I always wonder about that, because I think I'd always choose to PLAY if given a choice.

Oh yeah, I'm one of the 1/3 of the stadium watching on TV, but still will make any comment I please.

WR recruits have to love it, absolutely love seeing zero WRs not named Boyd on this roster.. Our second most talented WR is Ford, so basically, if you can walk and chew gum, you can compete for the #1 WR spot on a FCS team as a true freshman..

And I'd assume that Boyd will be gone next year, so they really need to go hard after WRs.

Absolutely, the game day atmosphere was also great last night, really enjoyed it! But, I doubt anyone would go to a school for that reason at all. As someone else pointed out, who cares if we had our student section going crazy if you are sitting on the bench behind 5 star recruits all 4 years? You go to a college to get a good job afterwards.. playing and getting better, and having the NFL want your services is the way to do that.

Do you really think any of these top recruits think they'll go to Ohio State and "ride the bench" ? And if they do is that the type of competitor you want?

I'm sure some of them might think that it would be EASIER to start and play immediately at Pitt over Ohio State. Say you are a 4 star WR right now, not the very best, but considered really good. You could look at Pitt this year and decide, Boyd is leaving, I'll be guaranteed to play every game and start from day 1 immediately next year and be pretty confident you will. Where as you might look at the tOSU depth chart and realize it might take a year or 2. I wouldn't see that as a poor competitor, but as a pragmatist.

But then you look at the way our receivers are used (even our dynamic superstar doesn't run vertical pass routes, and averages under 10 YPC, running the ball every first down, etc.), and our lackluster, predictable, dink and dunk offense, and you say...is that really the kind of football I want to play for the next 4 years?

Hopefully Duzzi will shake that offense, and the big fella who's holding it back, up a bit. I realize part of it is lack of personnel and playmakers, but I believe 100% that we can and should do a lot better with what we have.

Duzzi came from a program with one of the most prolific pro-style offenses in the country. He wants this program to look as much like that one as possible. He is no dummy--I know he doesn't like what he;s seeing right now. He will insist on better, and if he can;t get it out of the Big Fella, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go after Jim Bollman or Dave Warner from MSU.

Yes, but also they could look at it as if it is an opportunity. An opportunity to play, help the team reach the next level, and, in some cases, represent the hometown area and have friends and relatives at every game. Hey, it has been a long time, but what a special situation it would be to bring the program a conference or national championship when it has not been an expectation. A longshot? Yes, but impossible? No. Tony Dorsett and his crew did it. Imagine the exhilaration and memories associated with being part of that. The program now is at the level that every recruit can be part of something big and bring the people to Heinz to see that happen. This season could be a segue to that.

Not for sure Hamlin liked the stadium.. Heard he Tweeted something about it, but I don't have Twitter

F that. Seriously F that. So sick of hearing about "gameday atmosphere" in recruiting. If I'm Narduzzi, I'm telling recruits:

"PSU and OSU have more fans than us, their stadiums are louder, and the atmosphere is better. Guess what. It doesnt effing matter. I dont give an F and neither should you. You're a football player. You have 48 college games to play. That's it. If you think you're going to get more playing time in those 48 games, commit to us. Playing time is what matters. Once you're on the field, I can get you to the NFL. If you like white outs and crowd chants, go somewhere else."

Pitt fans (both Pittsburgh and any fan across this nation in general) like a winner. When the Pens were winning, Pens fans showed up, when they don't, some decide to stay home. Same thing with the Bucs for the last 20 years - they've won for the last 3 years and fans finally started showing up. Steelers in the late 80s had sparse crowds when they were down. And that is because there are many options here for your entertainment dollar. If you put a winning product on the field, Heinz or ANY new stadium will fill to capacity. When Wanny had his 10-win seasons the games were fun -- that Pitt/Cincy game vs Chip Kelly's Bearcats was probably the loudest and fun gameday crowd I could remember in the last 15 years. It was awesome seeing hundreds of people being body pressed throughout the stadium that day -- I THINK THE ENTIRE STADIUM SHOULD MATCH THE PANTHERS' 4th QUARTER CRAZY! Win baby ... and MORE and MORE WILL come definitely -- this town is READY for it!

I look forward to the day when our strongest recruiting pitch is no longer the prospect of immediate playing time. If that was a recipe for success, we'd have been playing on New Year's Day for the past few decades. Good news is we appear to have a coaching staff that is a big upgrade over what we have been used to recently (both on the field and recruiting) and am looking forward to what they can do as they stock the cupboard over the next few years on the recruiting trail.
