Chawntez Moss, Pittsburgh
Moss averaged 5.4 yards per carry in spot duty behind James Conner last season and impressed in the spring game with eight carries for 59 yards. The trick lies in the competition in house. Quadree Ollison rushed for 1,121 yards in 2015. Junior Darrin Hall and freshmen A.J. Davis and Todd Sibley will be in the mix. Pat Narduzzi has options; that's for sure.

Juwan Johnson, Penn State
Penn State needs a receiver to fill the void left by Chris Godwin's departure to the NFL, and the spring buzz in Happy Valley surrounded a 6-foot-4, 218-pound junior who had just two catches last season. The Nittany Lions' need that big-play receiver, and there's a lot to like here.

Will Grier, West Virginia
A former SEC quarterback to caps it off. We're just glad Grier will have a chance to be back on the big stage after missing a year because of a suspension at Florida. Grier put on a show with a 12 of 18, 202-yard performance in the Mountaineers' spring game.

Thanks for posting Captain.

I am a bit surprised Moss ended up being picked as the break out player for Pitt: Partly because there are too many other talented RBs (+ Quadree Henderson) who will be in the mix getting hand offs and partly because he hasn't shown enough of a "wow factor" in his carries this past season to suggest to me he is next Conner or Lewis or Graham or even that he will surpass Ollison. While I'd be happy to see any Pitt RB tear it up this coming season, my money would be on Hendrix and possibly Watts or Hamlin as a break out players from Pitt.

As for which Pitt rushers are most likely to shine, I'd have to go with Q Ollison and even one of the freshman RB (since none of them would technically fit the definition of "break out" player).

We shall see though.

The fact that he surpassed Ollison last year easily suggests he could pass him again this year.

I just Post what I find and share it on the Lair if I am going to read it, I will take time to post it.

I rely on Pitt Posters like you, Peak, and others analysis, far more than my own these days. Just not following it as much anymore. So I am limited to Just Guesses and Hunches and not that reliable!

My worry is not what Player will break out for Pitt, Coach Pat is producing them in bigger numbers than any coach before since Sherrill. My worry is on QB Browne can he make fast starts like Peterman last year.

As well as, Browne must do it with a New TE. Peterman and Orndoff were Big Break Out Players for Pitt in 2016. but are gone now? Don't forget Peterman needed a year to get better and Orndoff had four? Still, PSU, OKST, and GT are early games with most of their Players Back with experience at QB and good Coaching.

Just a Guess but I think Ford and Smith as Recruits could have Break out Season right away. Ffrench is just guess too. It is the Defense like you say needs Break out Players. I think Coach Partridge will make that happen.

However, my Hunch and that is far better reliability based on what i hear & seen in other years......I think AJ Davis & Sibley may be a big surprise in 2017, and sometimes at Running Back you can't Coach or Teach it, it just happens because it is within the that special recruit, and you make the entire Team an unexpected Break Out Year Surprise.

A Super Running Back that Runs with Instinct and Vision can really allow a Team to make up for mistakes and adjustments by others learning early. Pitt has many weapons but the QB & TE are New and until i see them more I am in wait and see mode with a Hunch this could be a great year, and guess Pitt would be lucky to win 8 games again.

It is not a Guess on AJ Davis, just a Hunch from what I am hearing and we will know if we have early gushes whispers from Pitt August Camps, just like what was heard about Dorsett, McCoy, and Conner?
