Every year I always found it interesting who the players would select for the draft. 85% of the time they align with who the staff would draft, so I always think it’s notable to see who the players prefer. Here are some picks that piqued my interest
- Maverick Gracio over David Ojiegbe. Ojiegbe was the portal kid from Clemson… could he be getting beat out by the kid we flipped from Kent State?
- Walk on DE Zach Zollers over Antonio Camon raised my eyebrows. Both are young, but maybe reminiscent of Chris Maloney getting taken over Noah Palmer a couple years ago.
- Nigel Maynard over Tamarion Crumpley. Could be a good sign for the young DBs
- This one could be because of the Seniors on the team and who plays boundary/field safety, but Jesse Anderson over Javon McIntyre was eyebrow raising. Gold team has Donovan McMillan on it who is a boundary, so they could’ve been looking for a field safety.
- The RB position was wild to me. Walk-on Caleb Williams was drafted over 3 scholarship RBs. The final RB drafted was the highest rated - Gateway RB/LSU transfer Derrick Davis.
- TE Josh Altsman over Cole Mitchell… Mitchell is in year 4…
- Ghost over Elliot Donald and Nahki Johnson. Just found those ones interesting as well
