Nate Peterman returns as the starter with Adam Bertke and Ben DiNucci adding a year of preparation. At this time it looks like NP will be the starter but stranger things have happened.

Thoughts ?

Roster

3 Ben DiNucci 6-2/190 QB FR Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland

4 Nate Peterman 6-2/225 QB RS JR Jacksonville, Fla./Tennessee

7 Adam Bertke 6-6/235 QB RS FR Maria Stein, Ohio/Marion Local

Adding in the summer

Thomas MacVittie QB Cincinnati, OH 6'4" 213

DiNucci for backup, loved watching this dude in high school. Kid has some good size to him, can run, unreal patience in the pocket and moving around for a high school kid (in all honesty, he looked so comfortable buying himself time, it almost came off as cocky). Weird delivery but what high school kid doesn't have a weird delivery.

No knock on Bertke, no nothing about him but I am rooting for DiNucci..

Have you heard of any adjustments made to Ben’s release? His throwing motion looks different to me than typical QBs.

No, actually made a comment last spring how I'd love to see some video footage of Ben and Adam throwing the ball and everyone blasted me, saying "Why would anyone want to see that?" So once again, I find myself alone on this board..

I am looking forward to the day where the Pitt coaches relax on the gestapo like access to practices with media accessibility and allow Chris and rivals to view more than just the players stretching. Warm up drills in spring and summer isn't top secret info, i doubt clemson is sending in spies dressed up as media to try and find some advantages coming from these practices..

Not to be overly optimistic but I hope to hear about progress in spring ball from both. They've been in the program long enough to start seeing if they belong at this level or not..

Bertke looked decent the past couple of springs. Big dude, strong arm, pretty mobile for his size, has a weird delivery himself but can spin it. It would be a mistake to overlook him as a potential future starter at Pitt. MacVittie will be redshirted for sure. DiNucci is the wild card. This should be the year that Bertke is ready to step in and run the offense if Peterman gets dinged. This is his third year in the program and if he isn't ready now, he never will be.

^^^ Agreed. Adam did look good at last year’s Spring Game and the throw he made on the run shows he is athletic, even if it was a little behind the WR. He needs to stop gaining weight.

We're in trouble !!!!!! Who on that roster scares opponents ?
well it's thin no doubt but looking at our competition, who on anyone's QB roster scares you?? Deshaun Watson scares me, actually thinking about caprera and galambos trying to stop him actually frightens me, I am talking toy clown in corner of my bedroom sitting on rocking chair with a wicked smile on it's face while whispering my name kind of scared.. Other than that, maybe the Canes QB, maybe. Justin Thomas' legs scare me a bit but with better de ends, we'll be ok.

I am far from a Nate fan but he is experienced, that in itself puts him ahead of about 2/3rds of the qbs in the acc..

Peterman by biggest concern (over wr and Conner return?). Kind of faded to end the year and now a new OC.

On the other hand, Ben DiNucci needs to gain some weight/muscle. He looked really thin at the Bowl game. So thin, that when the QBs came out for warmups, I thought maybe one of the DBs was with them, but it turned out to be No. 3, BD...

Go Pitt.

He does look thin

I like Peterman, I think he will be real good this year ,just has to improve consistency and look for more than one receiver. But it's the back ups that I'm worried about. I'm sorry don't have as much faith in them as some of you. And definitely not a mcvittie fan. Don't think he will be the world better (or pitt savior) many think he will be. Another r transfer like Peterman would help. Pitt is also going after a qb recruit named Herndon hooker.I understand narduzzi is a defensive minded coach (and I great one at that), but I think hooker should be our number one priority.

oldpantherfan, I don't think there are many pitt fans out there that have any confidence if Nate goes down. Let's be honest, we are looking at a 3 or 4 win season, TOPS, if we have to start Ben, Adam or the incoming freshman..

Voytik leaving leaves us vulnerable if Nate goes down. I like the OL if healthy but that is a future topic leading up to the spring game.

yep, don't blame him for leaving but definitely hurts us.. Need to get Adam and Ben up to speed asap.. That falls on coaching, adam is going on year 3 in this program and Ben is going on year 2. It's college, you dont' get 1/2 a decade to develop these guys.
