The team at the spring game is the worst team you will see under The Duzz. The isn't a negative post but a positive one. All spring games are generally made of only 3 classes. The senior class has moved on and we really only lose Boyd, Render and Holtz. I think KK played terrible all year and we won't miss him and Pitts never really impressed.

For the most part, we are playing with Chryst's recruits. The 2016 panthers will include a nice class come fall. Once Connor is back that will provide another strong boost. Thank goodness for the transfers of peterman and Hendrix. The talent level on the team will grow with each class under Narduzzi that is why this is the worst Pitt team you will see. Steady improvement and talent gains in the years to come.

Not ready to make a record prediction for the upcoming season but we can certainly expect improvement across the board. Go PITT!

We have a brutal schedule.

it is brutal to pitt fans, in college football, it's quite average.. Compare quality teams we will face (Top 25 teams) to your average SEC or even Big 10 team.. it's not brutal.. If the coastal wasn't extremely mediocre, it could be almost brutal but it's not..

I wouldn't call the Coastal extremely mediocre, but I get your point.

As I've said before, the schedule is about the same from last year:

Marshall>Akron
this is the biggest difference. But Pitt should still beat these guys

Villanova=YSU

Clemson, PSU, Oklahoma State = Notre Dame, Iowa, Louisville
The biggest difference with this year's trio is that most will assume Clemson as an automatic loss. In retrospect, Notre Dame last year was one also, but Pitt's recent history with them led a lot of us to believe that Pitt stood a chance.
Pitt went 1-2 against that trio last year.

Coastal opponents + Syracuse 2016 = Coastal opponents + Syracuse 2015
I imagine as a whole these 7 teams will be about the same. I'm going to guess Georgia Tech will be better this year and North Carolina will take a step back. No idea with Miami and the Virginia schools.
Pitt was 5-2 against the annual opponents last year.

I cant for the life of me figure out why pitt fans think this upcoming year's team is down.. I usually am not overly optimistic but I am very excited for this team. A lot of fans calling for 5 or 6 wins.. Man, I think this team can and should win 8 games. Not gonna say easily but definitely something they could accomplish. 5 and 7 record, with this O-line and a senior QB? Really?? I'll say this, if we do go 5-7 or even 6-6, 2017-18 is going be be flat out ugly, I mean disgustingly bad.. Lose left side of line, starting a new QB, new LBs, new DE, very scary..

The Coastal is about as weak as it gets in the P5 leagues on the average year.

Pitt's SOS was #27 last year. I think it's easily top 25 this year, maybe top 20.

I think the negativity based on the spring game is a function of how Narduzzi works and how he set things up. He is already getting notorious for not showing his cards--closed to the media spring and fall practices, etc. So, when he goes with a draft for the spring game and you don't get any intact first team or 2nd team units working the result is as would be expected--a virtual stalemate. In addition, by keeping the offensive schemes as vanilla as possible, you don't get much there to impress you either. End result--fans and maybe media types as well--think we just aren't very good-- when whether we are good or bad is un-determinable from what anyone was given to see.

You are correct. This was nothing but a glorified scrimmage and there were a number of our better players that didn't even participate.

It's foolish to rush to judgment based on Saturday, imo.

-The Coastal did beat the snot out of the Atlantic last year. So there's that.
Including the Conference Championship Game, the Coastal was 10-5 against the Atlantic. Clemson was responsible for 3 of the losses.
Of course, I suppose you can use that stat to discredit the Atlantic division, and thus the whole ACC conference, as well.

Whats the purpose of a spring game? The Nitters first team beat the hell out the second team. So what! PITT splits up the players so our enemy's cant get a good read on the team or strategy.
It seems like an open practice might where fans can meet the players and coaches might work out better.
One major risk is Spring game injuries.

Agreed, although even the vanilla offense that we saw, QB and WR play were far from distinguished. Hopefully that is because the DB's have improved so much? Guess time will tell. Hail to Pitt!

IMHO, the purpose is to evaluate talent and performance against some reasonable measuring stick. I get what you say about the Nits...it could be that they are good or bad....they might have tried to accomplish confidence building. maybe it will work maybe it won't.
But we are still going to kick their lilly white asses.

If the Duzz can consistently bring in recruiting classes like this past class, we will see more competition during the spring game. Players won't switch positions as often to fill holes and weaker players will wash out. There will be more talent and competition at likely all positions. Right now it seems like there is a drop off after many of the starters, this will go away as more talent comes in.

This incoming class is really going to be a big boost. One way to look at things is that our senior classes have been small. If a class like the 2016 class can eventually start a trend of playing as a group with minimal attrition, we will see a much different program in 2020. The ride is going to be fun, I'm ready to enjoy the journey.

Narduzzi and staff recruiting is far better than the HCPC tenure. They are getting better athletes and will translate to better play. The key is development and Pitt has a program that can make that difference. Pitt is up against like and kind programs that are in recruiting rich areas. NC, GT, VA, VTech, Miami all are programs that can be tough to beat.
