I didn’t get to watch Saint Peter’s win over Kentucky, but I caught this one. That is a good basketball team, by far one of the most fundamentally sound Cinderella teams I’ve seen. Great offensive sets (love how they work it inside!), nice rotational defense, and they can hit their free throws. Feels like your prototypical northeast basketball team.
I would take Shaheen Holloway over Willard for sure. Holloway actually saved Willard's job. People forget that. He brought that class in. It was paid for but he was still the architecht. SHU ought to be doing everything it can to get Willard to Maryland so they can grab Holloway.
I can’t comment on their coach since I know nothing about him, but I give props to him for the job he’s done there.
I've been hearing about him for years and its rare that a guy like that actually lives up to the hype.

A FGC run made Andy Enfield a hot commodity. I remember preaching he would be a solid coach for Pitt and got ridiculed for it. When 15 seeds advance like they do it's almost all great coaching. Holloway is a very good coach, he's exactly what Pitt needs. Of course he will not be coming here and we're stuck with 1 of the worst coaches in Division 1. It's a damn shame.
Ideally but Holloway can almost name his school. He is approaching the rare "guarantee" category from a mid-major school. Nate Oats was the last MM "guarantee." You were ridiculed for bashing Dixon and advocating for getting rid of him at the time. The intelligent basketball fans warned you and your ilk of what would happen, but you didn’t heed our advice.
We'd be in very good shape if we had Enfield. I didn't advocate for getting rid of Dixon and getting Stallings or Capel. I wrote since Jamie keeps dangling other job offers all the time and Enfield was obv a good coach, I wanted Enfield here. And I would have been right. You and your ilk claimed he wasn't a that good of a coach.
I see your doubling down on stupidity 10 years later. There is minimal difference between Dixon and Enfield. We had a good coach and that was a given. Your argument was dumb then and is still dumb today.
Enfield is a better coach. However, at that time, you could not fire Dixon to hire Enfield. Now, if you were guaranteed to get Enfield and Dixon wanted to leave, then ok, collect his full buyout and sign Enfield
He has been at USC for 9 years and made the NCAA tournament 4 times. Dixon had a far better winning % at Pitt and accomplished a lot more over his first 9 years.
You're a joke dude. Dixon was threatening to leave every season it seemed like in his last few years at Pitt. I was a big Enfield fan and advocated for him and you and you ilk called me every name in the book and claimed he would be a bad fit here. You couldn't have been more wrong.
I think it’s a futile argument from both sides at this point. Enfield is certainly a good coach, but there’s no way to prove Sauce was wrong because there’s no way to prove Enfield would’ve been a good fit here. There’s been many successful coaches fail because they’re a poor fit at a school.
I’d like to think he would. In fact, he was my preferred choice in 2016. He showed on two separate occasions that he could rebuild struggling programs.
Would be have done the same with a stagnant Pitt program in the ACC? I don’t know. I thought Capel was the guy to do it but that obviously hasn’t been the case. I think it’d all come down to how he would replace multiple starters (Artis, Young, Jeter) after his first season.
I like what Holloway said in his postgame presser yesterday. To the effect of: our practices are so hard, our guys can’t wait to you play a game just to get a break from practice. The games are the easiest part of what we do.

That about sums up Pitt’s decline. They either stopped or can’t get NYC and NJ players to come here anymore. I’d say the latter. None of them want to play in Pittsburgh when they can’t play an away game near their home anymore now that we’re in the ACC. Pitt just can’t recruit since Barry Rohrssen left during the end of Dixon’s era.
And it’s a shame because we really did carve out a nice identity with those type of players. Would a home-and-home with a NYC Big East/A-10 team help that at all? I’m not sure.
That isn’t true. Champagnie, Femi, and Horton are (were) from NYC/NJ. A good coach with connections would be able to recruit the area well and win at Pitt.
