Considering that we have only one scholarship open, this likely means someone will go.

Perhaps different from you, I'm never quite as comfortable with exiting players who might be able to contribute in time.

But like you were suggesting in the winter of last year, it's likely some players who are not of ACC caliber will need to go.

So perhaps you would agree that at least one player currently on the roster is likely to go. Perhaps two?

Even if Stallings desperately wanted all 7 freshmen back, which I'm sure he does not, there is a 0% chance all would decide on their own. With transfers at epidemic rates, it wouldn't even surprise me if Carr or Stevenson transfer and he obviously cannot afford that.

I was right with my transfer predictions last December so I'll give it another go. Brown and George won't be back. We sign 2 more HS players and a grad transfer center.

I think he said we were recruiting 2 - Maybe he hopes to get 1 or the 2 (or someone that emerges)

It is possible 2 go. I am not thinking that way. After last season's exodus, I see zero or one.

A team in Pitts situation should always be on the lookout for guys who could help them .
KS as did JD can recognize talented kids it's another thing signing them !
Freshman not playing meaningful moments aren't all the same. Some guys come into a D1 program and realize they don't belong others realize they've got the talent ,but just aren't ready. I'd fit Brown into the not ready type . I'd be surprised to see either Carr or Stevenson even consider leaving . They're playing and learning not many better situations , only if they could win a few more games it would be perfect .

Not saying you'll be wrong, cause obviously I have no idea, and who knows what each kid is thinking right now.

But I personally hope Brown stays. Out of all the young bigs, he just seems the most ... skilled , polished?? With the understanding that they are all very very raw. Plays like his smooth hook shot just make me think he is one that potentially could develop into a player down the line.

Comparing that with Peace, who looks like a young kid just learning how to play the game.

I would agree with George. On a team full of a lot of mediocre to not good players, he's even lower down than that.

Class balance was a big part of Jamie's success. And his lack of class balance at the end with our senior class that graduated last year has contributed to the position that we are in currently. KS has to get it fixed. And his 2018 class has to be markedly better than what he has right now.

Come Spring, will Pitt be an easier sell or a harder sell for him?

I found how to access old K.Stallings shows

Here is the link - What I talked about is around the 57 minute mark

Stallings was lavish in his praise of Ellison earlier in the broadcast
Ellison is a guy who has been pretty much under the radar. If Stallings can add an impact recruit or 2 along with Kingsby, Ellison and Golden to the half dozen or so kids we have developing now Pitt could get to respectability as soon as next year.

He's also a guy who was mediocre at St. John's. Offensive ratings of 85.2 and 97.3 in his two season, both of which are below average. In both years his turnover rate was higher than his assist rate. He didn't really add much as a rebounder. He is a poor foul shooter (62.8% for his career, and worse his second year than his first). He was mediocre at shooting twos and threes (although he improved both his second year).

He really needs to improve in this off year if we think he's going to be a good piece going forward.

I'm cautiously optimistic on Ellison. If he can make more progress with his 3P% I think Stallings can make him into something. He had a good assist rate both years at St John's and they don't really run an offense. Seems like a guy who could succeed with structure instead of the "Greg St. Jean is actually coaching" thing at SJU.

Stop showing any optimism. It is absolutely not allowed around here.

Ellison's ability to improve his free throw % is the most important thing he can do to help the team.

That's what we need to hope. But for him to be more than just a depth/rotation guy he needs to be better here than he was there. Is that possible? Sure. Is that likely?

For some people, neither is realism.

Eh... maybe but I think the overwhelming majority of people realize where we are at as a program right now. The flip side of the optimistic people is a million times worse on this board and anyone that points out anything even remotely optimistic is met by numerous posters telling them how stupid they are, how much we suck, and so forth.

I am not sure what the need to be a wet blanket is on every single thread/post serves. Again, everyone knows we are not a good program right now. Does it really serve a purpose to oppose anything and everything that is posted that has some optimism behind it?

Of course there is real realism and then there is the realism that comes from a mind with an agenda.

So I’ll ask you right now...what is closer to realism right now...pittpoker rants or Gary, smf, fkthomas, and fsgolf with their constant excuses for stallings?

Saying that Stallings should be given a chance isn’t giving an excuse. To me it is reasonable thought. To you I guess not.

Yeah, that isn’t what I said? There are about 7 threads near the top of the page where Gary is telling us all the great things stallings is doing. We have people pumping up a 14 point win to Duquesne. We have people stating based on one game that Parker Stewart is a legit ACC player.

There is giving him a chance (which I felt he has either already blown, or totally blew last year) and making up crap to support him.

Which is, of course, far better than the fantasies that some people spin with an agenda.
What agendas do people have ? Some people didn't like JD , some people ( most ) don't like KS, Gallagher or Barnes so
what . This isn't a platform for change , I don't think the chancellor or Heather reads this board . All they need to do is look in the stands to understand fan interest in their teams . Those that wish to always be negative are mostly people who like to see what's wrong no matter how successful you are and conversely those wishing to find positives out of this mess like to find any positive they can . Is that an agenda ?

Well, you have said multiple times that fans not coming out for the JD teams at the end was a good reason for Barnes to push him out. What do you think of 2.5k being there?

How long are we supposed to give stallings?

And yes, some of the posts scream of agenda.. constantly blaming JD’s recruiting, posts having an imaginary game between Dixon/stallings recruits, making post that say “stallings is recruiting two players!”

It was a fact that fans weren't renewing their season tickets , it's not something I was making up . I never advocated for JD being forced out , but he'll look back and be grateful for the change .
Everyone's idea of success is different , making the tournament and losing early wasn't exciting the fan base , is this being spoiled ? As we look back JDs yrs will be the golden era of Pitt bb . It will be sometime before Pitt even makes it to the tournament.
Stalling is the coach of Pitt bb and he will be for at least another two yrs and whether I want him there or not it's not going to change a thing so I hope he's successful because I'm a fan of Pitt bb .
Yes , JDs recent recruiting classes at Pitt sucked and denying it is pointless . He missed on every main player he targeted and had to settle for the players he signed .

Getting away from the bickering that somehow broke out in this thread, does anybody have any idea who these 2 players are? Answers specific to this question only please.

Breaking news: Coach is recruiting players.
I think it is news that he has said there are 2 priority targets that we will recruit hard and hope to land 1 of. Currently, he knows who he would like to acquire.

How many previous priority targets has he failed to land? I don't really think it makes it news that he labels someone "priority". He probably will need to sign more than two players, so if anything, that is reasonably unimpressive that he has two people in mind and isn't that confident about one of them.

We have people stating based on one game that Parker Stewart is a legit ACC player.

What evidence do we have that Stewart isn’t an ACC player? Have you seen his rather impressive offer sheet? We certainly weren’t the only ACC school that offered him. High quality programs like Wisconsin and Florida were after him as well. I’ve seen you include below average ACC guards like Chris Jones and Cameron Wright alongside guys that were actually good on your list of players we will really miss. Do you recall what their offer sheets looked like? They both maximized their potential but Wright would be the fourth guard and see about 15 MPG on a typical quality ACC team and Jones wouldn’t even see the court. They only played so much here because we were painfully thin at the position. College hoops and especially the tournament is a guard’s game. Teams need guards that can score points in bunches. The latter editions of Dixon’s teams never had them.

Cam wright was a 4 star recruit with interest from Dayton, IU, and Wisconsin. Chris jones, you are correct...he didn’t have a great offer sheet. I also though think that he wasn’t nearly as bad as people in here made him out to be.

Stewart did have some good offers as well, but honestly has looked so bad on defense that he had to improve exponentially to be an ACC player.
