STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS

It's official ..... the Florida Panthers vs the Edmonton Oilers in the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals ...... rematch of last years Finals won by Florida ..... Game 1 doesn't start until next Wednesday 6/4/25 in Edmonton ......... has the potential to be a GREAT series, really looking forward to it !

Go cats go. As unlikeable as Florida can be sometimes, can’t get myself to root for McDavid and the Oilers, or the end of the Canadian drought, and I don’t want to see Edmonton win a 6th to surpass the pens.

That's exactly where I am. But my respect and admiration for McDavid has grown leaps and bounds.

One of the best hockey games I have ever seen. WOW. Marchand......hate him, but the dude is so clutch and an Hall of Famer.
First 2 games of this series have been FANTASTIC, both decided in OT and series tied 1-1 ..... Marchand has been a GREAT pickup by Florida at the trade deadline, gives Florida 3 really good forward lines that can defend and score ..... 2 breakaway goals by Marchand tonight including the game winning goal ! ..... goalies have made some great saves as well ..... can't wait for Game 3 !

LOL......between the first two great games of the Stanley Cup playoffs, the fantastic Game 1 of the NBA Finals and the US Open at Oakmont, all we need is for a former HOF RB to kill his wife and embark on a police chase in a Ford Bronco.

IYKYK

Fantastic series so far. It looked to me like Edmonton was outplaying the Panthers in overtime. They looked a bit shakey with the puck and were not as aggressive. But like the champions they are they pulled it out in a huge game.

Mcdavid is fantastic but Leon Draisaitl compliments him really well. Hes a great player in his own right

Is it just me or does Tkachuk seem like he’s off his game ?

Tkachuk is obviously injured sustained in the Four Nation's Tourney. So good eye. Yes he is.

It’s the best start to a Stanley Cup Final I can recall. It has all the makings of an instant classic… the rematch from the year before, McDavid chasing his elusive Cup, first two games going to OT. I’d even argue there are seven future HOFers in this Series (Bob, Barkov, Tkachuk, McDavid, Draisaitl, Marchand, Perry). Reminds me so much of 2009… I hope this goes seven!

The NHL should arrange the season so that the Stanley Cup Finals start after the NBA Finals. Also, they can't catch a break. Edmonton/Florida 2 years in a row? Only 1 US market and that's only if you count Miami. My guess is Stanley Cup ratings are higher in Pittsburgh than Miami.

Game 1 drew a rating similar to softball.

It’s a 1-2 gut punch for the NHL because not only is it Sun Belt vs Canada (although I LOVE this series thus far), but the Cup Final is exclusively on cable television.

As much as I enjoy TNT’s presentation, their reach is a liability… I was excited about the rumored CBS/Turner merger a few years back because they could’ve placed the Final on CBS when it wasn’t on ABC.

I don’t know how anyone can watch this and say that the NBA is anywhere near as exciting or entertaining. This has been a great series so far. I think if more people took the time to actually watch playoff hockey, they’d be hooked.

Alot of people just didn't grow up watching or playing hockey. So they don't know. But yet, they are fanboys of the English Premiere League and I am sorry, soccer is not 1/10th as interesting and exciting as playoff hockey.

Different strokes. To me the NHL playoffs are some of the most compelling edge of seat sports you can watch. Just about every shift can change the game. In addition hockey players are some of the most humble and decent dudes in all of sports.

It’s just one game but I think the depth of the Panthers showed last night. Edmonton has two incredible players Florida may not have a guy as talented as mcDavid but they have more guys who can beat you and play a complete game. Florida just out hustled and imposed their will physically. It totally threw Edmonton off their game

Sam Bennet is a hell of a player who gets overlooked when they talk about Great players

Will be intersting how the oilers respond

You are comparing a regular season vs playoffs. EPL doesn't have playoffs so it doesn't have those nail-biting games.

Also, soccer is probably the most played sport in the US so at least on some level, everyone can relate and understand an EPL game. Most Americans don't even know how to ice skate, let alone play hockey. The sport is very "foreign." And it's really hard to see the puck and that's kind of important. Should bring back the Fox glow thing.

We're going to see what Edmonton's made of in Game four. Letting a 2-0 game lead get away and the look on some of their faces on the bench, I think the Oilers may be having doubts about beating the Panthers compounded by last year's finals and the way last night's game turned out.

How often do you see the baseball in the World Series? Or a golf ball at the Masters? Half the time you can’t even see the football, you just know who has it based on context. Anyone paying attention should understand where the puck is and where it’s going.
On that note, how often do you see the football unless you are live?

Yeah, people who think that the glow puck, or some other, similar stupidity, actually solve a real problem are people who don't watch hockey, and aren't going to start just because the puck is glowing.

Agreed. Although in golf I do find the shot tracer helpful It’s the only sport where that adds something

I agree 100%.

The difference is, if you are paying attention to a hockey game you know where the puck is. Even whey you aren't seeing it. But on the other hand, with a golf shot if they are showing you the ball in a way that you can actually see the ball, you pretty much cannot tell where the ball is going, whether it's straight or a hook or a slice. And if they do show a wider shot where you could theoretically see that, then it isn't possible to see the ball at all. So you still have no idea where it is going.

Anyone following tonight’s game? Was ready to chalk this series up as 3-1, but here come the Oilers…
This series is so great ....... Game 4 tonight with Florida up 2 games to 1 in the series ...... tonight Florida up 3-0 after the first period, Edmonton comeback ties it 3-3 after 2 periods and Edmonton took the lead 4-3 with 6:24 to play in the 3rd period only to see Florida pull their goalie and score to tie it 4-4 with 19.5 sec left ..... going to overtime for the 3rd game out of 4 ...... tremendous series, tremendous hockey !

Agreed. Here’s some food for thought: through four games, this is the best Cup Final since… 2013? 2009? We’ve had some instant classics thus far.

Edit: And it’s decided in OT… we are tied at 2! What a treat this has been. Panthers almost won it only a few minutes earlier with a shot rattling off the post.

Yeah Edmonton wins it 5-4 in OT ...... Bennett from Florida had a Grade A chance but Picard the Oilers goalie barely got his glove on the shot and deflected it upward, hit the crossbar and out, then later Draisaitl wins the game with a weak shot that deflects off the Florida D-man, changes direction and goes in the net ...... Game 5 Saturday ! Unbelievable game, unbelievable series !

Which makes it a shame that the Cup Final isn’t on network television… as much as I like TNT’s coverage, you can only get so many viewers exclusively on cable.
These channels are the new network television. The old ABC, NBC, and CBS over air free stuff will be a thing of the pass in a few years.
